Tracy Morgan leaves the hospital and enters a rehab center

30 Rock‘s Tracy Morgan, who was severely injured in a six-car accident on June 7, was released from hospital care and transferred to an undisclosed rehab center today, his rep confirms for EW. He is expected to remain in the rehab facility for several weeks.

“While he is continuing to show signs of improvement, he still has a long way to go,” his rep said. “He and Megan wanted to publicly express their deepest gratitude to everyone at Robert Wood Johnson University for the unbelievable care and attention they provided him.”

The accident, which occurred around 1 a.m., left Morgan in critical condition for several days. However, last week, Morgan’s condition was upgraded to fair. Morgan sustained multiple injuries in the accident including a broken leg, a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs. Comedian James McNair, who goes by the stage name Jimmy Mack, was killed in the crash.

Following the accident, 35-year-old truck driver Kevin Roper of Jonesboro, Georgia was charged with causing the multi-vehicle crash and faces one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto.

Tracy Morgan rep addresses amputated leg rumors, 'overwhelming' concern

Tracy Morgan is still in critical but stable condition at a New Jersey hospital after a six-vehicle accident early Saturday morning resulted in the death of comedian Jimmy McNair, as well as four injuries. A new statement from Morgan’s rep tries to clear up any rumors around the surgery that Tracy had on his broken leg on Sunday and whether amputation would be necessary.

The statement reads: “Tracy remains in critical but stable condition. His fiancée Megan is by his side. The concern for his well-being has been overwhelming, but Megan is respectfully asking that the media await official word through these channels before speculating (mostly inaccurately) on his condition. Rumors about amputating his leg are completely fabricated. As we shared yesterday, Tracy had surgery on his broken leg. We are working closely with the incredible staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to share information when it is available. This recovery will be arduous and we hope that you can be patient during this difficult time. Thank you.” READ FULL STORY

UPDATE: Tracy Morgan in critical condition after car accident in New Jersey

Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan remains in critical condition after a six-car accident that took place early Saturday morning.

“His family is now with him and he is receiving excellent care,” Morgan’s rep tells EW in a statement. “We will provide a further update once more information becomes available.”

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike, Sgt. Gregory Williams of New Jersey State Police told the Associated Press. Morgan was traveling with six others in a limo bus that overturned in a collision. “The limo bus is the only vehicle that overturned,” Williams said. “Looks like one of the tractor-trailers may have rear-ended that limo bus, but that’s preliminary at this time.”

AP reports that in addition to the limo bus, two tractor-trailers, an SUV and two cars were also involved in the accident. A spokesman for the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital said four patients are being treated there — three are in critical condition and one is in fair condition. Authorities confirmed that one man, comedian James McNair, who goes by the stage name Jimmy Mack, died in the crash. Comedians Harris Stanton and Ardie Fuqua were reportedly also passengers in the limo bus.

The 45-year-old Morgan, who starred in 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, performed at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Del., on Friday night.
