Murder-for-hire charge dropped against AC/DC's Phil Rudd

On Thursday, AC/DC’s drummer, Phil Rudd, was charged with allegedly trying to have two men killed, along with charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis, and threatening to kill.

However, as of Friday, Rudd is off the hook for one of those charges. According to People, the Crown Solicitor of Tauranga, New Zealand, where Rudd was arrested, withdrew the murder-for-hire charge due to “insufficient evidence.”

Rudd’s lawyer Paul Mabey QC issued a statement, saying: “The charge for alleging an attempt to procure murder should have never been laid. The charge is now withdrawn. Mr. Rudd has suffered unnecessary and extremely damaging publicity as a result of widespread and sensational reporting of a very serious allegation, which on any basis was never justified.”

Rudd is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 24 for the other three charges.

Adele's son wins five-figure settlement from paparazzi

Even when Adele isn’t on stage, she’s still winning.

According to the Associated Press, Adele’s one-year-old son, Angelo, won a five-figure sum in damages from a settlement with photo agency Corbis Images UK after paparazzi photographed him in private family moments.

Adele’s lawyer Jenny Afia told the AP that the singer refused to let her son become “public property.” “It is a matter of profound sadness that many of his milestone moments, such as his first family outing and his first trip to playgroup, were photographed and published worldwide expressly against his family’s wishes,” Afia added.

As for the money, it will be held in a trust for Angelo, and Corbis Images UK has agreed to stop using the photos.

Arby's gets Pharrell's hat for $44K in eBay bid

Arby’s has won the bid for Pharrell’s famous hat.

The fast food restaurant announced Sunday it paid $44,100 for the Vivienne Westwood hat, made famous when Pharrell wore it at the Grammy Awards in January.

The Arby’s logo uses a design similar to the brown fedora, which became a trending topic on Twitter after Pharrell sported it.

The producer-rapper-singer put the hat on eBay two weeks ago. The earnings will support his charity From One Hand to Another.

Pharrell tweeted thanks to the buyer Sunday, to which Arby’s replied: “You’re welcome. We’re HAPPY to support a great cause & get our hat back.”

Pharrell wore a similar hat when he performed at the Academy Awards on Sunday. His No. 1 hit “Happy” was nominated for best original song.

Ronnie Montrose's death ruled a suicide

The death of rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose, who formed an eponymous band in the 1970s and played with heavy hitters such as Van Morrison and Herbie Hancock, has been ruled a suicide. The San Francisco Chronicle reports the San Mateo County coroner has concluded that Montrose took his own life last month at his home in Millbrae, Calif.

His widow, Leighsa Montrose, tells the newspaper that her 64-year-old husband was tormented by clinical depression for much of his life. She says he suffered from severe self-doubt that caused him to harshly evaluate his performances, even on nights audiences gave him multiple standing ovations.

Leighsa Montrose says her husband left no suicide note. She says she was bewildered by his decision to take his life, especially since he spent two years being successfully treated for prostate cancer.
