Update: Jennifer Hudson to sing with Sandy Hook chorus

Jennifer Hudson will join the chorus from Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing “America the Beautiful” before Sunday’s Super Bowl game.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Thursday that the Grammy and Oscar-winning singer would join the Sandy Hook chorus. It features 26 children from the school in Newtown, Conn., where 20 first-graders and six adults were killed in a Dec. 14 shooting rampage.

The performance will be part of CBS’s pre-game show before the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, and will be broadcast live. Alicia Keys will sing the national anthem.

Children who survived the shooting rampage also recorded a version of “Over the Rainbow” to raise money for charity. Proceeds benefit the United Way of Western Connecticut and the Newtown Youth Academy.

Kim Kardashian's pregnancy announced by Kanye West

Earlier in 2012, Kim Kardashian, 32, and rapper Kanye West, 35, went public with their romance, and they’re ending the year with the announcement that Kardashian is pregnant.

During a concert at Atlantic City’s Revel Resort on Sunday night, West paused in the middle of a song to make the reveal. “Can we make some noise for my baby mom right quick?” he said.

Kardashian later confirmed the pregnancy. According to E!, she is about 12 weeks along. That would place the baby’s birth date some time in June 2013.

This will be the first child for both West and Kardashian, both of whom have had very public personal lives throughout their professional careers. West had a long relationship with model Amber Rose from 2008 until 2010 (she is now pregnant with Wiz Khalifa’s first child). Meanwhile, Kardashian is still technically married to Brooklyn Nets forward Kris Humphries, as the divorce dissolving their 72-day marriage has yet to be finalized.

Kardashian had been planning on having children—a story line during last season’s run of Keeping Up With the Kardashians involved her looking into freezing some of her eggs.

This will be the second child to enter into the inner circle of music’s most powerful family, as frequent West collaborators Jay-Z and Beyoncé celebrated the birth of their first child earlier in 2012. West, Kardashian, Jay, and Bey have been spotted together numerous times over the past few months.

Judge ends case against Britney Spears' parents

Britney Spears’ former confidante and self-professed manager failed to prove his libel and breach-of-contract claims against the singer’s parents and her caretakers, a judge who dismissed the case mid-trial ruled Thursday.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Suzanne Bruguera said an attorney for Sam Lutfi hadn’t proven any of his allegations in the case that centered on events before the singer’s public meltdown more than four years ago.

Lutfi’s side rested its case Tuesday, but Bruguera agreed with arguments by attorneys for Spears’ father and her conservators that there wasn’t sufficient evidence to send the claims to a jury.

Lutfi had sued Lynne Spears for libel and the singer’s father, Jamie, for allegedly hitting him at the singer’s mansion in an incident shortly before Jamie Spears and others were granted control over the singer’s life. Lutfi also had claimed he was owed a 15 percent share of the singer’s earnings, but Bruguera disagreed. READ FULL STORY »

Rihanna sues, claims accountants cost her tens of millions

Rihanna sued her former accountants Thursday, blaming them for tens of millions of dollars in losses, shoddy bookkeeping, a failure to recommend she trim expenses when a 2009 tour was losing money and an ongoing audit by the Internal Revenue Service. The lawsuit in federal court in Manhattan sought unspecified damages against New York-based Berdon LLP and two accountants. A Berdon spokeswoman said the company had no immediate comment.

The singer, suing under her real name, Robyn Fenty, alleged through her attorneys that the defendants drained tens of millions of dollars from revenues while she launched four national and international tours over a five-year period. READ FULL STORY »
