Cartoon Network snags rights to 'Totally Spies!' spinoff

The French-produced cartoon series The Amazing Spiez has been picked up by Cartoon Network from the Parisian house Marathon Media, Variety reports. The show is a spinoff of the already popular series Totally Spies! and focuses on students of an L.A. spy school. The network also grabbed the rights to the $20 million Totally Spies! feature film adaptation.

Jenna Dewan to star in indie comedy

Step Up‘s Jenna Dewan and Monk‘s Joe Hursley have joined indie comedy Balls to the Wall, which is being directed by The Kid & I‘s Penelope Spheeris, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie centers on a man, played by Hursley, who begins working as an exotic dancer to pay for his wedding with Dewan’s character.

Rachael Harris to join up with 'My Boys'

Comedienne and actress Rachael Harris (The Hangover) will be joining the sitcom My Boys as Marcia, a new neighbor and love interest for character Mike, TBS confirms. Her first episode will be in the latter half of the fourth season, which premieres July 25.

Update: TBS also confirms that cast member Jim Gaffigan will not be returning for Season 4.

Tracy Morgan returns to host Syfy's 'Scare Tactics'

Tracy Morgan will be returning as the host of Syfy’s candid-camera frightfest Scare Tactics, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 30 Rock star will also be picking up an executive producer credit for the show’s 13 new episodes, which premiere this fall and will constitute a part of an upcoming block of reality programming on the newly rebranded channel.

Jack Kirby's estate sues Marvel Comics over rights to characters

Marvel Comics’ Spidey-sense must be tingling. The estate of Jack Kirby, who co-created most of the comics behemoth’s most popular superheroes, is suing the company to terminate the copyrights on those characters, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s THR, Esq. blog. The suit claims non-exclusive control, but that still means that, should it win, the estate would be able to license to other studios characters with movie franchises already in the works. X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America and the Fantastic Four could all potentially lose their copyright statuses.

'Deadliest Catch' star charged with reckless driving

While he was recently cleared of DUI and hit-and-run charges, Deadliest Catch’s Jake Harris has been hit with counts of reckless driving and driving with a suspended license, People reports. The 24-year-old reality show star was initially arrested in Seattle on Feb. 18, only a week after his father, Capt. Phil Harris, died from complications of a stroke. Harris could end up with over a year of jail-time if convicted.

The Hallmark Channel acquires Martha Stewart content

The Hallmark Channel has acquired exclusive rights to a variety of Martha Stewart programming, centered around The Martha Stewart Show. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the network plans to use this material to fashion a two-and-a-half hour Stewart-based programming block that is itself the cornerstone for a larger seven-hour daytime block focused on lifestyle and home content. Hallmark will launch the programming block on March 29.

HBO's 'The Pacific' pulls in over 3 million viewers

The Pacific, the latest Steven Spielberg-Tom Hanks WWII epic miniseries, raked in 3.1 million viewers Sunday night for its premiere episode, the first of 10. While that’s better than the premiere of HBO’s previous effort John Adams, the miniseries likely amassed a smaller army of watchers than its European-theater predecessor Band of Brothers, the Los Angeles Times reports. Ratings aren’t as crucial for a channel like HBO with no advertising, which hopes to use the $200 million dollar project as both a flagship of quality and a boost to expanding its subscriber base.

President Obama to appear on Fox News Channel

President Barack Obama will appear on Fox News Channel, in an effort to foster support for the health care bill as it heads towards a vote in the House of Representatives, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The President’s interview with Bret Baier will air on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Fox News has long been the top-rated cable news network, but its contact with the Commander in Chief has been minimal since he took office. “This is a real opportunity to try to get some firm answers from President Obama on lingering questions about specifics in the health care legislation, the process Democrats are using to try to pass it, and the politics of its passage,” says Baier.
