Director and producer Michael Gottlieb, best known for comedies like Mannequin and for producing several big name video games in the late ’90s, died in a motorcycle accident Friday. He was 69.
Gottlieb was driving southbound in a 2012 Ducati motorcycle riding behind a 2003 Toyota. “(The motorcycle) crossed into opposing traffic in an attempt to pass (the Toyota),” California Highway Officer Monique Mischeaux said in an official statement. The two vehicles collided when the Toyota simultaneously went to make a left turn. According to officials, Gottlieb, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was immediately thrown from the bike. “As a result of the collision, (Gottlieb) received severe head trauma and a broken neck, and succumbed to his injuries,” Mischeaux said. Gottlieb was pronounced dead by paramedics 45 minutes after the crash.
