Lindsay Lohan facing new charges for reckless driving

Lindsay Lohan is scheduled to be arraigned on misdemeanor charges that could result in her returning to jail, but the star is not required to attend Wednesday’s proceedings.

The actress faces three counts of reckless driving, lying to a police officer and obstructing an officer from performing duties after an accident in which Lohan’s Porsche slammed into the back of a dump truck in June. Authorities in Santa Monica, Calif., allege Lohan lied about being behind-the-wheel before the accident and the charges could prompt a probation violation in her 2011 necklace theft case.

Los Angeles city prosecutors announced Tuesday they have asked a judge to revoke Lohan’s probation in the necklace case, which could result in her being sentenced to 245 days in jail after the Santa Monica case is resolved. READ FULL STORY »

Lindsay Lohan arrested for striking a pedestrian with her SUV

Lindsey Lohan was arrested in downtown New York last night after a pedestrian told police she hit him with her SUV. A spokesperson for the New York Police Department confirmed that the actress was charged with leaving the scene of an accident — a possible misdemeanor — at approximately 2:30 a.m., after a 34-year-old Hispanic man claimed Lohan’s black Porsche Cayenne SUV struck him in his knee as she was driving down an alley near the Dream Hotel on West 16th Street in Manhattan. The man was taken to Bellevue Hospital.

No alcohol or drugs were suspected to have played a role in the incident, and Lohan was released with a desk appearance ticket after being processed at the police station. No bail was required. The accident could impact her probation, with or without a conviction.

Prosecutors reject burglary case against Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan will not be prosecuted for a burglary at a home where she had been a houseguest, prosecutors determined Tuesday.
The decision came after Los Angeles police detectives presented a potential felony burglary case against the actress and two men who were reportedly at the Hollywood Hills home of a longtime acquaintance after several items went missing earlier this month.

Prosecutors cited lack of evidence to prove Lohan was involved in the thefts at the home. The items taken were described as keys, cash, sunglasses and a credit card holder. The homeowner, businessman Sam Magid, is an acquaintance of Lohan and later told authorities that he did not want to pursue a case.

“Lindsay is glad this matter has been cleared up so she can focus on her upcoming projects,” her spokesman Steve Honig said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

One of the men police interviewed was Lohan’s assistant, who told authorities that he, the actress and another man went into the home early Aug. 18. Some items were taken, but the assistant refused to say who stole them, according to a memo rejecting the charges.

“We do not have sufficient evidence to prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt,” the prosecution memo states. The document also noted that none of the missing items were found in the possession of Lohan or the two men who were believed to be at the house on the day of the burglary.

Los Angeles police say their investigation into the thefts will continue.

Lohan remains on probation for a 2011 case in which she pleaded no contest to taking a $2,500 necklace without permission. After completing a strict counseling and morgue cleanup duty program implemented by a judge, Lohan no longer has to report to a judge, but she faces jail time if she is charged with another crime.

In recent months she has resumed acting, portraying Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime movie about the actress’ love affair with Richard Burton.

She also recently filmed The Canyons, a film by Less Than Zero author Bret Easton Ellis. That film has Lohan playing opposite James Deen, who is best known as an adult film star with thousands of movies to his credit.

Police in Santa Monica, Calif., continue to investigate a crash involving Lohan and her assistant on the Pacific Coast Highway earlier this year. Lohan was on her way to the set of the Lifetime film Liz and Dick when she slammed into the back of a dump truck and had to be briefly hospitalized.

Lindsay Lohan tweets about exhaustion incident, returns to 'Liz & Dick' set

After being found unconscious in her Los Angeles hotel room yesterday, Lindsay Lohan is back working on the set of Lifetime movie Liz & Dick, the made-for-TV flick that finds her playing the title role of Elizabeth Taylor. In the wee hours of Saturday morning, Lohan posted comments on her Twitter feed about the incident. “Note to self.. After working 85hours in 4days, and being up all night shooting, be very aware that you might pass out from exhaustion & 7 paramedics MIGHT show up @ your door…. Hopefully theyre cute. Otherwise it would be a real let down.”

Paramedics visited Lohan at her hotel yesterday after she was found unconscious. At the time her rep Steve Honig told EW: “Lindsay worked a grueling schedule the past few days. She was on set last night at 7 pm and worked through the night until 8 am this morning. She took a nap before shooting her final scene. Producers were concerned when she did not come out of her room and called paramedics as a precaution. Lindsay was examined and is fine, but did suffer some exhaustion and dehydration. Lindsay was never taken to a hospital; reports to the contrary are false. She is resting now and is hoping to be back on set later this afternoon.”

Lindsay Lohan accused of battery

In late March, Lindsay Lohan completed probation requirements stemming from a 2007 DUI. Now the beleaguered actress is once again in trouble with the law: EW has confirmed that Lohan is being accused of battery.

A woman alleges that Lohan shoved her at a West Hollywood nightclub on April 5; she filed an incident report with West Hollywood’s Sheriff’s Station on April 7. The station’s Sgt. Bowman tells EW that the complaint will now be investigated by the department’s detectives. Lohan’s publicist Steve Honig is confident that the woman’s accusations are baseless: “As of right now, all indicators are that this is yet another example of somebody looking for either money, 15 minutes of fame, or a little bit of both,” he tells EW.

Judge ends Lindsay Lohan's probation, gives back freedom

A judge ended Lindsay Lohan’s supervised probation on Thursday, giving the actress her freedom after nearly two years of constant court hearings and threats of jail. Lohan thanked Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner for her patience and let out a sigh of relief as she exited the courtroom after the brief hearing.

The judge had imposed a series of strict probation requirements, including cleanup duty at the morgue and counseling sessions last year, and Lohan met all the requirements by Thursday’s deadline. “I just want to say thank you for being fair. It’s really opened a lot of doors for me,” Lohan said.

Sautner told the problem-prone actress she was not going to give a lecture, but reminded her that she will remain on informal probation until May 2014 for taking a necklace without permission last year. “You need to live your life in a more mature way, stop the nightclubbing and focus on your work,” Sautner said.

The hearing came as Lohan’s career is showing hints of a comeback. She is due to guest star on an upcoming episode of Glee, recently hosted a highly rated but criticized episode of Saturday Night Live, and is set to star as Elizabeth Taylor in a television movie. “Lindsay is ending one chapter and starting the next,” her spokesman, Steve Honig said. “She is very eager to get back on set and dive into her next few projects.”

Roles have been hard to come by for Lohan in recent years, as she has been in and out of courtrooms, spent time in rehab and was sentenced to jail.

Her failure to complete alcohol-education classes in 2010 prompted a judge to sentence her to jail for the first time since the actress served 84 minutes for a pair of drunken driving arrests in 2007. A court-ordered rehab stint was cut short, but Lohan relapsed before year’s end and was sent by another judge to the Betty Ford Center, where she was involved in a fight with a rehab worker.

Within three weeks of her release in January 2011, Lohan was accused of stealing a $2,500 necklace from a store near her Venice home and soon landed in Sautner’s court. The judge rejected rehab and tried to send Lohan to jail as punishment. Overcrowding reduced a November 2011 sentence to a few hours, although the actress did serve 35 days on house arrest earlier in the year.

Lohan is far from the only celebrity to encounter trouble complying with the terms of alcohol-related cases and ending up in jail. Fellow female celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Khloe Kardashian have all been sentenced to jail and faced multiple court hearings because they didn’t properly comply with their sentences. All their cases have long since ended.
