Kate Middleton's phone was hacked, U.K. trial reveals

Intercepted phone messages from the days when Prince William and Kate Middleton were dating were read at Britain’s phone-hacking trial Thursday — he calls her “babykins” and makes jokes about almost being shot during a military training exercise.

But the future king was in no danger — the gun was loaded with blanks, not live ammunition.

The transcripts were read at the trial of seven people, including former senior executives in Rupert Murdoch’s U.K. newspaper empire, on charges related to phone hacking and other tabloid misbehavior.

The 2006 recordings reveal the extent of media intrusion into the lives of William, second-in-line to the throne, and Middleton, who at the time was a private citizen dating a senior royal.

The recorded messages were found among the belongings of private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, who has been convicted of hacking the phones of aides to William and his younger brother, Prince Harry, for one of Murdoch’s tabloids.

The royal baby has arrived!

Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, welcomed their first child, a son, on July 22, according to People.

The couple, who announced the pregnancy in December, were famously married back in April 2011, an event that was watched by nearly 23 million people in the U.S. alone.

No charges for Australian DJs who pranked Kate Middleton's hospital

British prosecutors said Friday they will not press charges against two Australian DJs over the royal hoax call that preceded a nurse’s suicide.

Two Australian DJs impersonated Queen Elizabeth II and her son, Prince Charles, as they phoned London’s King Edward VII hospital in December to ask about the condition of the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly Kate Middleton, who had been hospitalized for treatment of acute morning sickness stemming from her pregnancy.

Nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who put the call through to a colleague who in turn described the details of Kate’s condition, was found hanged in her room three days after the prank was broadcast across the world. READ FULL STORY

British nurse who committed suicide after prank call was found hanging

An inquest into the apparent suicide of a nurse duped by a hoax call from Australian DJs about the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge heard Thursday that she was found hanging in her room, had wrist injuries and left three notes.

Coroner’s officer Lynda Martindill said nurse Jacintha Saldanha was discovered hanging by a scarf from a wardrobe in her nurses’ quarters on Friday by a colleague and a member of security staff at London’s King Edward VII Hospital.

Martindill said an attempt to revive Saldanha failed. The case is being treated as an apparent suicide. READ FULL STORY

Australian DJs give first interviews after nurse's suicide -- VIDEO

The two Australian radio personalities whose prank phone call to Kate Middleton’s hospital is being linked to the suicide of the nurse who received the call gave their first televised interviews. “If we played any involvement in her death then we’re sorry for that,” a teary Mel Greig told Today Tonight, one of two interviews she did with her on-air partner Michael Christian. “We couldn’t foresee what was going to happen in the future.”

Jacintha Saldanha, a 46-year-old mother of two, had patched the prank call through to Middleton’s private nurse, believing that Greig was Queen Elizabeth. She was found dead of a suspected suicide on Friday, and the DJs have received death threats. READ FULL STORY

French court bans Kate Middleton's topless photos

A French court ordered a magazine publisher to hand over all digital copies of topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge within 24 hours and blocked further publication of what it called a “brutal display” of William and Kate’s private moments. Under the ruling Tuesday, the French gossip magazine Closer faces a daily fine of €10,000 ($13,100) if it fails to hand over the photos taken during the royals’ vacation in southern France and cannot disseminate them any further, including on its website and tablet app.

The magazine published 14 photos of a partially clad Kate in its pages on Friday.

But if the royal family had hoped to block international publication, it was too late. Publications in Ireland and Italy already went ahead with the topless photos. Tuesday’s ruling only affects Mondadori Magazines France, Closer‘s publisher. The publisher also faces a €2,000 ($2,600) fine. READ FULL STORY

Royal family to sue over topless Kate Middleton photos

The Associated Press reports that Britain’s royal family is seeking legal action to prevent a French tabloid from continuing to publish topless photos of Kate Middleton. Lawyers for the crown will go to court in France, where privacy laws are famously strict, to ask for an injunction against the Italian conglomerate that publishes French tabloid Closer, which ran stealthily-obtained paparazzi photos of Middleton sunbathing topless on vacation in Provence. No such suit has been filed against an Irish magazine that also ran the photos. Palace officials took no legal action last month when a British tabloid printed photos of Prince Harry cavorting naked in a Las Vegas hotel.
