Joe Francis arrested, released for alleged 'Girls Gone Wild' fight

Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis was arrested on misdemeanor assault charges and spent Friday night in jail. He was released early Saturday morning on $20,000 bail, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department website.

The 41-year-old was taken into custody for an altercation that reportedly took place at the Girls Gone Wild offices. Police are investigating whether Francis was in violation of a restraining order when he entered the building.

Francis has been involved in a number of legal battles, including a case in which three women accused him of assault and false imprisonment, and a slander charge brought against him by casino mogul Steve Wynn. In that ruling, a court ordered Francis to pay Wynn millions for defamation. Francis’ company, GGW Brands, subsequently filed for bankruptcy in February 2013.

'Girls Gone Wild' founder convicted, could get five-year prison sentence

Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis was found guilty Monday of misdemeanor counts of assault and false imprisonment stemming from a dispute with three women after a night out at a Hollywood club in 2011.

Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich said in a statement that after a two-week trial, a jury convicted the 40-year-old Francis of three counts of false imprisonment, one count of assault causing great bodily injury and one count of dissuading a witness. He faces a maximum of five years in prison. A hearing to schedule his sentencing was set for Wednesday. READ FULL STORY
