Beyonce, Donald Trump among celebs targeted by hackers with Russian ties

Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, and Donald Trump — as well as Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, and several other celebrities and politicians — were hacked by a group operating under a Russian web address, resulting in the release of numerous pieces of personal and financial information.

Exposed.su, the hackers’ home page, was taken off-line Tuesday. It featured the header “The Secret Files” and motto, “If you believe that God makes miracles, you have to wonder if Satan has a few up his sleeve.”

The site linked to documents such as Beyonce’s credit report and Social Security number, as well as personal information on Sarah Palin, Mel Gibson, Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears, and FBI Director Robert Mueller. READ FULL STORY

American crowned Miss Universe

An American university student is the new Miss Universe, defeating dozens of contestants from six continents to bring the crown back to the U.S. after a drought of more than a decade.

Twenty-year-old Olivia Culpo won the title Wednesday night at the Planet Hollywood casino on the Las Vegas Strip, replacing outgoing champion Leila Lopes of Angola.

The Boston University sophomore’s coronation ends a long losing spell for the U.S. in the competition co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC. An American had not won the Miss Universe title since Brook Lee won in 1997.

Culpo, who beat out 88 competitors, wore a tight navy blue mini-dress with a sequined bodice as she walked on stage for the event’s opening number. Later in the night, she strutted in a purple and blue bikini, and donned a wintery red velvet gown with a plunging neckline. READ FULL STORY

Miss Pennsylvania resigns, says Miss USA pageant rigged

The Miss USA pageant representative from Pennsylvania resigned her crown claiming the contest is rigged, but according to organizers the beauty queen was upset over the decision to allow transgender contestants to enter.

A posting on Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin’s Facebook page claims another contestant learned the names of the top 5 finishers on Sunday morning — hours before the show was broadcast.

Monnin claims the other contestant told her the names of the top 5 she spotted on a planning sheet for the telecast — and she decided to step down as soon as those same contestants were named during the show. “In my heart I believe in honesty, fair play, a fair opportunity, and high moral integrity, none of which in my opinion are part of this pageant system any longer,” Monnin wrote in one of her Facebook posts.

Monnin, of Cranberry, Butler County, did not immediately respond to a Facebook message from The Associated Press.

Donald Trump, who runs the Miss Universe Organization, called Monnin’s claims that the pageant was fixed “totally ridiculous” in a live interview Wednesday on ABC’s Good Morning America and said the pageant organization plans to sue Monnin for making the “false charge.” “We’re going to be suing her now. She made a very false charge and she knows it’s a false charge,” Trump said. READ FULL STORY

Miss Rhode Island wins Miss USA crown

The newest Miss USA winner is a Rhode Island cellist who describes herself as a nerd and aspires to be more like Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn. Olivia Culpo shares Hepburn’s European heritage and dark brown hair and soon they will share something else. Culpo said after winning her crown Sunday night that she plans to go to Tiffany & Co. in New York and recreate Hepburn’s iconic opening scene from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Culpo, a Boston University sophomore, will take a year off from her studies to tackle her duties as Miss USA and represent the nation in the 61st Miss Universe contest in December. The 20-year-old said she wished she could have shared her crown with her 50 competitors during the pageant at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. READ FULL STORY

Miss Universe organization will change policy to allow transgender contestants

GLAAD and the Miss Universe Organization announced Tuesday that the pageant will change its overall policy to allow transgender women to compete. The larger change comes after the Miss Universe Organization, which is owned by Donald Trump, said it would allow Miss Canada Universe contestant, Jenna Talackova, to participate, “provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions.” Talackova had threatened legal action against the organization when they initially denied her entry.
