As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis sentenced for murder-for-hire plot

As I Lay Dying lead singer Tim Lambesis has been sentenced to six years in prison for his involvement in a murder-for-hire plot targeting his estranged wife, Meggan. The musician had already pleaded guilty in February for soliciting an undercover cop to murder his wife of eight years and the mother of their three adopted children. The sentencing includes a 48-day credit for time already served. Three of Lambesis’ bandmates, Nick Hipa, Phil Sgrosso, and Josh Gilbert, were among the 80-plus people in attendance at the sentencing.

According to Meggan, who spoke at the sentencing, Lambesis had shown odd behavior in the months prior to his arrest in May 2013, including asking his wife for their children’s Social Security numbers the day before he was taken into custody. Lambesis has been on house arrest leading up to the sentencing and is still involved in a $2 million civil lawsuit filed by Meggan.

As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis to stand trial in murder-for-hire plot

The frontman of the Grammy-nominated metal band As I Lay Dying will stand trial on a charge of trying to hire someone to kill his estranged wife, a judge in San Diego ruled Monday.

The decision came after a preliminary hearing for Timothy Lambesis that featured several hours of testimony by prosecution witnesses, including an undercover officer who said he posed as a hitman named “Red” and met with the singer.

San Diego County sheriff’s Officer Howard Bradley testified that Lambesis met him at a book store in May in Oceanside and told him he wanted his wife “gone.”

Bradley told the court he asked Lambesis directly if he wanted his wife killed, and the singer replied, “‘Yes, I do.'”

Lambesis said his wife, Meggan Lambesis, had restricted his visits with their three adopted children after they were separated in September, Bradley recalled, adding he was also angry because she was going to get a chunk of his income in a divorce settlement.

Bradley said Lambesis told him at the end of their meeting, “‘just to clarify, just so you know, I do want her dead.'”
