The bed where Michael Jackson died is no longer available for sale. Julien’s Auctions has removed the queen-sized headboard from its auction of items from 100 North Carolwood Drive, Jackson’s last residence. “This item is the only portion of the bed that had been listed for auction, and no part of the bed remains for sale,” company president Darren Julien said Tuesday, adding that he removed the carved headboard seen in evidence photos during the criminal trial of Jackson’s physician from the auction’s lots at the request of Jackson’s estate. Michael Jackson’s doctor was convicted Monday of involuntary manslaughter after a trial that painted him as a reckless caregiver who administered a lethal dose of a powerful anesthetic that killed the pop star. The verdict against Dr. Conrad Murray marked the latest chapter in one of pop culture’s most shocking tragedies — the death of the King of Pop on the eve of the singer’s heavily promoted comeback concerts.

Murray sat stone-faced and showed little reaction at the verdict. There was a shriek in the courtroom when the verdict was read, and the crowd erupted outside the courthouse. The judge polled the jury, and each juror answered “yes” when asked whether their verdict was guilty. The jury deliberated less than nine hours. The Houston cardiologist, 58, faces a sentence of up to four years in prison. He could also lose his medical license.  READ FULL STORY »

Verdict reached in Conrad Murray case

A jury reached a verdict Monday in the involuntary manslaughter case against Michael Jackson’s doctor. Court officials said it would be read at 1 p.m. PST.

During the six-week trial, prosecutors depicted Dr. Conrad Murray as a reckless physician who abandoned Jackson while he was under the effects of the powerful anesthetic propofol on June 25, 2009. Attorneys for the Houston-based cardiologist countered that Jackson was addicted to the drug and self-administered the fatal dose when Murray left his bedroom.

Murray agreed to become Jackson’s personal physician as the singer prepared for a series of comeback concerts in 2009.

Murray did not testify during the trial but previously acknowledged to police that he gave Jackson propofol and other sedatives on the morning the singer died. READ FULL STORY »

Coroner concludes alcohol killed Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse died as the unintended consequence of drinking too much alcohol, a British coroner ruled Wednesday. Coroner Suzanne Greenaway gave a verdict of “death by misadventure,” saying the singer died of accidental alcohol poisoning. “The unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels (of alcohol) was her sudden and unexpected death,” Greenaway said.

The singer, who had fought drug and alcohol problems for years, was found dead in bed at her London home on July 23 at age 27. An initial autopsy proved inconclusive, although it found no traces of illegal drugs in her system. Pathologist Suhail Baithun told the inquest into the singer’s death that Winehouse had consumed a “very large quantity of alcohol” — the level in her blood put her more than five times over the legal drunk-driving limit. Country star Loretta Lynn was forced to cancel a pair of concerts this weekend because she is in the hospital. According to her official website, the 76-year-old singer of “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Don’t Come Home A’Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ On Your Mind)” is in the early stages of pneumonia and according to her doctors requires rest.

The hospital stint forced her to cancel shows in Ashland, Kentucky and Durham, North Carolina, though she doesn’t expect to be down for long. “Loretta is doing well and is disappointed but feels confident she will be ready for upcoming November dates,” said the site.

This isn’t the first time this year Lynn has had to postpone performances because of health issues. According to People, she had to skip shows in August because of knee surgery and also missed a pair of appearances after being hospitalized with heat exhaustion.

Lynn, whose astonishing personal narrative was adapted into the 1980 Sissy Spacek film Coal Miner’s Daughter, received a career resurgence in the past decade thanks to Van Lear Rose, her award-winning 2004 album produced by Jack White.
