Artist Gene Colan, a prolific comic book illustrator whose work included Batman and Daredevil, died on Thursday in New York at 84 after battling cancer and liver disease. One of Colan’s most famous projects was the 1970s comic The Tomb of Dracula which first showcased the character of Blade, later played by Wesley Snipes in a series of films.

Nick Charles, CNN's first sports anchor, dies at 64
CNN sports anchor Nick Charles has passed away at the age of 64 after battling bladder cancer. Charles was the network’s first sports broadcaster and co-hosted Sports Tonight with Fred Hickman for years. He also was one of the few anchors to be immortalized by Topps on a bubble gum trading card.
Lindsay Lohan accuser to drop criminal complaint: Report
Dawn Holland, the former Betty Ford Center employee who accused Lindsay Lohan of assault, is dropping her claim, according to TMZ. Holland’s lawyer, Keith Davidson, told the site, “Dawn will not continue to press charges against Lindsay, nor will she be assisting any further in the investigation or prosecution.”
Actress/singer Michelle Nicastro dies
Actress Michelle Nicastro, who originated the role of Eponine in the Los Angeles production of Les Miserables, has passed away at the age of 50 from cancer, according to the Los Angeles Times. Nicastro’s other credits include the film When Harry Met Sally and the soap opera Santa Barbara.
Travie McCoy arrested for spraying graffiti on Berlin Wall
Travie McCoy, the rapper behind the hit song “Billionaire” and Katy Perry’s ex-boyfriend, was arrested in Berlin for spraying graffiti on one of the remaining sections of the Berlin Wall, housed in a local gallery, according to Billboard. McCoy also tweeted about the graffiti. He was released on bail and continued his European tour in Amsterdam.
Justin Bieber reportedly investigated for assault
Pop superstar Justin Bieber is reportedly being investigated for assault at a Canadian laser tag facility, according to CBC News. The CBC says that a 12-year old boy claims Bieber hit him while playing at the facility. Bieber’s rep told TMZ that it was not true (as of press time, Bieber’s reps had not returned EW‘s requests for comment).
Alicia Keys gives birth to baby boy
Singer Alicia Keys and her husband, Swizz Beatz, welcomed their first child together, Egypt Daoud Dean, on Oct. 14 in New York City, according to People. The couple were recently married in July.
Peter Jackson officially to direct 'The Hobbit'

Tolkien’s The Hobbit with production beginning in February 2011. The film is planned to be divided into two installments and will be shot in 3D. Said Jackson, “Exploring Tolkien’s Middle-earth goes way beyond a normal film-making experience. It’s an all-immersive journey into a very special place of imagination, beauty and drama. We’re looking forward to re-entering this wondrous world with Gandalf and Bilbo – and our friends at New Line Cinema, Warner Brothers and MGM”.
MTV host T.J. Lavin in critical condition after accident
BMX bike rider T.J. Lavin, who hosts MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenges, is in critical condition after a bike accident last night at the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas. Lavin was reportedly thrown from his bike and knocked unconscious while also suffering a shattered wrist and broken ribs. MTV released the following statement to EW: “Our thoughts are with T.J. He is an important part of MTV’s extended family and we’re all praying for him.”
