Martin Sheen will return to Broadway in The Subject Was Roses, Variety reports. Sheen received a Tony nomination 46 years ago when he played the son; this time he will play the father. The play will open the season of Los Angeles’ Mark Taper Forum in February, replacing David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow. Frances Conroy and Brian Geraghty will co-star.

'Hurt Locker,' 'Nine' win Satellite Awards
The International Press Academy handed out its 14th annual Satellite Awards, with The Hurt Locker named best drama and Nine named best musical. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeremy Renner won dramatic actor for The Hurt Locker, with Shohreh Aghdashloo winning for The Stoning of Soraya M. In the comedy/musical category, Meryl Streep won for Julie & Julia and Michael Stuhlbarg for A Serious Man. Kathryn Bigelow was named best director for Hurt Locker. In the TV categories, winners included Breaking Bad, Glee, Little Dorrit, and Grey Gardens.
ABC greenlights Danny Wallace pilot
ABC has greenlit the comedy pilot Awkward Situations for Men, about a British comedian who moves to America with his wife, Variety reports. British star Danny Wallace will play a version of himself, in the project based on his book of the same name. Wallace is best known in the US as the author of Yes Man, which inspired the Jim Carrey film.
Dean Sheremet files for divorce from LeAnn Rimes
Dean Sheremet has filed for divorce from LeAnn Rimes, according to People. Papers filed in court in Los Angeles cite “irreconcilable differences” for the split. The couple were married nearly eight years and announced their separation three months ago. Rimes is now dating actor Eddie Cibrian.
Ivan Reitman says script in the works for 'Ghostbusters 3': Report
The Hollywood Reporter’s Roger Friedman reports that Ivan Reitman hsa confirmed that a script is in the works for Ghostbusters 3. Sigourney Weaver had recently alluded the the project in interviews for Avatar. Reitman said that the film could move forward in 2010.
Warner Bros. signs up for Steve Carell father comedy
Warner Bros. bought an untitled spec script by Cars writer Dan Fogelman to develop as a star vehicle for Steve Carell, Variety reports. Carell will also be one of the film’s producers. Carell will play a father who goes through a marital crisis and has to manage relationships with his children.
Taylor Lautner to star in action film 'Cancun' for Summit
Taylor Lautner will star in action project Cancun for Twilight producers Summit Entertainment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is the first film from the new production company Taylor has started with his father Dan Lautner. It will be developed as a starring vehicle for Taylor (and will also showcase his martial-arts skills); his dad is in discussion to be one of the film’s producers. The story follows a spring-breaker who goes to Cancun and has to save his friends after they are taken hostage by a drug cartel.
Rene Russo to play Thor's mother
Hot mama! Rene Russo has joined the cast of Thor, playing Thor’s mother Frigga, Variety reports. Kenneth Branagh is directing the film, which stars Chris Hemsworth as the Norse warrior. Anthony Hopkins plays Frigga’s husband Odin.
