Tracy Morgan is still in critical but stable condition at a New Jersey hospital after a six-vehicle accident early Saturday morning resulted in the death of comedian Jimmy McNair, as well as four injuries. A new statement from Morgan’s rep tries to clear up any rumors around the surgery that Tracy had on his broken leg on Sunday and whether amputation would be necessary.
The statement reads: “Tracy remains in critical but stable condition. His fiancée Megan is by his side. The concern for his well-being has been overwhelming, but Megan is respectfully asking that the media await official word through these channels before speculating (mostly inaccurately) on his condition. Rumors about amputating his leg are completely fabricated. As we shared yesterday, Tracy had surgery on his broken leg. We are working closely with the incredible staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to share information when it is available. This recovery will be arduous and we hope that you can be patient during this difficult time. Thank you.”
The accident occurred around 1 a.m. near Cranbury, N.J., when Kevin Roper fell asleep at the wheel of his tractor-trailer, slamming into a limousine bus carrying Morgan and six other passengers. Roper turned himself in to authorities after being charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto, posting a $50,000 bail. Morgan’s fiancee, Megan Wollover, who gave birth to a baby girl last July, remains at the comedian’s side.
