Charlize Theron compares press scrutiny to 'rape'

Constant scrutiny of her private life is akin to rape, Charlize Theron told Sky News.

When asked by a British reporter about the “intrusive” nature of online stories, the star of A Million Ways To Die In The West said she avoids Googling herself because “when you start living in that world, and doing that, you start feeling … raped.”

“There are certain things in my life that I think of as very sacred,” she told the reporter. “I’m very protective over them.”

Theron was in London promoting her new film when a local tabloid ran a picture of the 38-year-old leaving a hotel with her young son. Her relationship with Sean Penn has also generated considerable press in recent months.

In 2010, Twilight actress Kristen Stewart apologized for comparing the experience of being photographed by paparazzi to that of a woman being raped in an interview with British Elle.
