'MasterChef' finalist arrested after allegedly assaulting cop in Chicago

The University of Chicago has confirmed that 26-year-old Josh Marks was arrested early Monday morning by the University of Chicago Police Department after allegedly attacking and attempting to disarm a UCPD officer. Marks has been charged by the state’s attorney’s office with aggravated battery to a police officer.

TMZ — which first reported the news — tells a slightly more colorful version of the story. The site writes that Marks, the second-place winner on the third season of Fox’s reality competition MasterChef, lunged at a police officer and tried to grab his gun. Marks then ran into a residential backyard, where it took five policemen to subdue the 7’2″ reality star.

When being treated for his injuries at a hospital, Marks allegedly blamed his outburst on celebrity chef (and MasterChef co-host) Gordon Ramsay — calling the Brit “an ‘asshole’ who possessed his body and then transformed him into God,” according to TMZ. Reportedly, authorities found no evidence of drug use.

The University of Chicago couldn’t confirm these details to EW, but did add one correction to TMZ’s tale: Marks was arrested near campus, not on campus.
