Actor Vivek Shah has been arrested for allegedly sending menacing letters to five moguls — including Oscar-winning producer Harvey Weinstein — in an attempt to extort millions of dollars. ABC News reports that Shah is accused of threatening to kill members of Weinstein’s family unless $4 million were wired to an offshore bank account. Shah allegedly threatened coal magnate Christopher Cline, the owner of an NHL team, an oil executive, and another tycoon as well.
The alleged extortionist’s onscreen roles include an uncredited appearance in The Dark Knight (as “Middle Eastern Bank Hostage”) and bit parts on Bones and Outsourced. He was arrested by federal agents in Illinois on August 10 and is being held without bail in West Virginia, the state where one of the threatened millionaires resides.
A rep for Weinstein has not yet responded to EW’s request for comment.
