Lady Antebellum's Dave Haywood engaged

Filed under: Music, News and tagged:

Dave Haywood of Lady Antebellum is engaged, reports People. Haywood, the singer and guitarist for the country group, proposed to his girlfriend Kelli Cashiola last night. Haywood surprised Cashiola, the Vice President of Marketing/Brand Management for Warner Music Nashville, by picking her up from work and blindfolding her as he led her to her house, where he had strung up Christmas lights to read, “Will you marry me?” The couple were strictly platonic for five years before officially debuting as a couple at last month’s CMA Awards. They have not set a date for the wedding yet.

Christina Ricci to star in off-Broadway Shakespeare

Tagged:

Christina Ricci’s stage debut last year apparently didn’t scare her off — she’s going back. Producers said Tuesday the Pan Am star will join two-time Tony Award winner Bebe Neuwirth in a Classic Stage Company production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The off-Broadway show will begin performances March 28 and play through May 6. Neuwirth will play the role of Titania. Ricci will have the role of Hermia.

Ricci made her Broadway debut last season in Donald Margulies’ Time Stands Still, replacing Alicia Silverstone and starring opposite Laura Linney, Brian d’Arcy James and Eric Bogosian. Ricci burst onto the scene in 1990 as Cher’s daughter in Mermaids and has built a long list of film credits, including The Addams Family, The Ice Storm, Speed Racer and Penelope.

Piers Morgan on phone hacking: 'I'm not going to start any trail that leads to the identification of a source'

Filed under: Crime, TV and tagged:

CNN celebrity interviewer Piers Morgan refused to disclose details Tuesday about his most damning link to Britain’s phone hacking scandal — his acknowledgment that he once listened to a phone message left by Paul McCartney for his then-wife Heather Mills. In an eagerly awaited appearance before the U.K.’s media ethics committee, Morgan, who replaced Larry King on CNN, was visibly tense, sometimes hostile and often rejected characterizations of his actions made by inquiry lawyers as “nonsense.”

The stakes were high for Morgan. More than a dozen journalists have been arrested, senior executives with Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. media empire have lost their jobs, and top U.K. police officers have resigned over their failure to tackle the phone hacking scandal. His testimony Tuesday was given under oath, and Morgan could be subject to criminal proceedings if he was found to have violated any British laws.
Before his U.S. television career, Morgan ran two British tabloids — first Murdoch’s News of the World and then the Daily Mirror, owned by Murdoch competitor Trinity Mirror. READ FULL STORY »

Gerard Butler is okay after being held underwater by some big waves while filming for a movie about a surfer at Mavericks, a famed Northern California surf break known for treacherous, stories-high waves.

Filmmakers were shooting the 42-year-old Of Men and Mavericks star paddling out with competitive surfers Greg Long, Zach Wormhoudt, and Peter Mel on Sunday afternoon, the San Mateo County Times reported. The four were steering clear of a set of waves in the 15-foot range when a much larger set broke in front of them, said Wormhoudt, of Santa Cruz. Vaclav Havel, playwright and anti-communist revolutionary, has died at 75

Filed under: Books, News and tagged: , ,

Vaclav Havel wove theater into revolution, leading the charge to peacefully bring down communism in a regime he ridiculed as “Absurdistan” and proving the power of the people to overcome totalitarian rule. Shy and bookish, with a wispy mustache and unkempt hair, the dissident playwright was an unlikely hero of Czechoslovakia’s 1989 “Velvet Revolution” after four decades of suffocating repression — and of the epic struggle that ended the wider Cold War. He was his country’s first democratically elected president, leading it through the early challenges of democracy and its peaceful 1993 breakup into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, though his image suffered as his people discovered the difficulties of transforming their society.

A former chain-smoker who had a history of chronic respiratory problems dating back to his years in communist jails, Havel died Sunday morning at his weekend home in the northern Czech Republic, his assistant Sabina Tancevova said. His wife Dagmar and a nun who had been caring for him the last few months of his life were by his side, she said. He was 75.  READ FULL STORY »
