Scarlett Johansson hacker apologizes, says his curiosity turned into addiction

Filed under: Crime, News and tagged:

Christopher Chaney, the 35-year-old man accused of hacking into the personal email account of roughly 50 celebrities including Scarlett Johansson, Vanessa Hudgens, Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis, and Christina Aguilera, gave an exclusive interview to a local Fox affiliate in Florida attempting to explain his actions and apologize. ”[The hacking] started as a curiosity and it turned into just being addicted to seeing the behind-the-scenes of what’s going on with these people you see on the big screen every day,” he said. “I was almost relieved months ago when [authorities] came and took the computer and told me what was going on, that they knew. I didn’t know how to stop doing it myself…. I wasn’t attempting to break into emails and get stuff to sell or purposefully put it on the Internet.”

He said he doesn’t remember when, how, or with whom that “pure curiosity” started. ”I deeply apologize. I know what I did was probably one of the worst invasions of privacy someone could experience,” he said. “And these people don’t have privacy to begin with. And I was in that little sliver of privacy they do have. And I’ve had like six months to think about it. It eats at me. When you’re doing it, you’re not thinking about what’s going on with who you’re doing it to.”

Chaney said he plans to plead guilty to all charges.

Conrad Murray drops defense claim that Jackson administered lethal propofol dose

Filed under: Crime, Music and tagged: , ,

An attorney for the doctor charged in Michael Jackson’s death on Wednesday dropped the defense claim that the superstar swallowed a fatal dose of the anesthetic propofol while the physician wasn’t looking. The defense claim had been a key tactic in the case of Dr. Conrad Murray. Attorney J. Michael Flanagan told the judge that he had commissioned a study about the effects of propofol if swallowed. The studies showed that any effect from swallowing propofol would be “trivial,” he said. “We are not going to assert at any time during this trial that Michael Jackson orally administered propofol,” Flanagan said. It was unclear if the defense planned to argue if Jackson might have injected himself with the fatal dose. READ FULL STORY »

Fantasia Barrino announces she's pregnant with baby boy, addresses Mahalia Jackson biopic rumors

Filed under: Celebrity Babies!, Movies, News and tagged:

American Idol season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino, who announced she was pregnant in August, told The Wendy Williams Show that she was expecting a son to join her 9-year-old daughter, Zion, this December. (Barrino has not released the identity of her unborn baby’s father, but has been previously linked to Antwaun Cook.)

Barrino also addressed reports that family members involved in a Mahalia Jackson biopic — which Barrino was set to star in — were angry that she was allegedly pregnant with a married man’s child. “I almost went into labor, because it was the first time that I’ve heard anything about that,” she told Williams. “Haven’t spoken to the family yet, haven’t heard anything from the family, so that was my first time hearing anything about it.” Rather, there were problems on set only because she held back her pregnancy from the filmmakers.

Earlier this week, Jackson’s estate responded to EW’s requests for comment surrounding their alleged anger: “The family had no say so in approval, disapproval, or the hiring and firing of Fantasia playing the role of Mahalia Jackson. We are uninformed and absolutely clueless as to what is going on with this movie.”

Hacker arrested in connection with Scarlett Johansson nude photos

Filed under: Crime, News and tagged:

FBI agents confirmed in a press conference today that “Operation Hackerazzi” has yielded a suspect. Authorities arrested Floridian Christopher Chaney, 35, in connection with a hacking and wire tapping operations that violated the privacy of celebrities including Scarlett Johansson, Vanessa Hudgens, Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis, and Christina Aguilera. According to agents, Chaney used open-source technology for more than a year to learn victims’ passwords and change them, then communicated via e-mail with their personal contacts, harvesting friends’ email addresses to find new victims.

“These hackers are very, very sophisticated,” said Steven Martinez, assistant director in charge of the FBI Los Angeles area. “It is a constant cat-and-mouse game.” Added Martinez, “This is not just a celebrity issue.” The agents said they had no information to suggest that [Chaney] profited” from the naked photos of celebrities including Johansson, though he did commend stars like Johansson for allowing their names to be put forth to assist in the capture of the hacker. Chaney made his first court appearance in Jacksonville, Fla. He faces up to 120 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Agents confirmed that the Bureau is open to the possibility that more hackers could be identified. “These people are, quite frankly, scum.”

Filed under: Movies and tagged:

Authorities in Hungary raided the set of Brad Pitt’s zombie movie World War Z today and seized a cache of weapons, People reports. The police took possession of 85 weapons that were being stored in a Budapest warehouse, including AK-47s and sniper rifles that authorities say were equipped with live ammunition and had not been rendered fully inoperable, creating what they maintained was a potentially deadly safety hazard. A publicist for the film, which is slated to hit theaters next year, said that the production was working with the police to resolve the matter.
