Country legend Loretta Lynn hospitalized with pneumonia

Country star Loretta Lynn was forced to cancel a pair of concerts this weekend because she is in the hospital. According to her official website, the 76-year-old singer of “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Don’t Come Home A’Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ On Your Mind)” is in the early stages of pneumonia and according to her doctors requires rest.

The hospital stint forced her to cancel shows in Ashland, Kentucky and Durham, North Carolina, though she doesn’t expect to be down for long. “Loretta is doing well and is disappointed but feels confident she will be ready for upcoming November dates,” said the site.

This isn’t the first time this year Lynn has had to postpone performances because of health issues. According to People, she had to skip shows in August because of knee surgery and also missed a pair of appearances after being hospitalized with heat exhaustion.

Lynn, whose astonishing personal narrative was adapted into the 1980 Sissy Spacek film Coal Miner’s Daughter, received a career resurgence in the past decade thanks to Van Lear Rose, her award-winning 2004 album produced by Jack White.

To be honest, an Apple take on the TV would start with the REMOTE CONTROL. It’s ideal as a touch device to launch apps. Apps that would do things like put up stats about sports players, information about TV characters, trivia about nations or leaders mentioned in news stories.

Does any country music fan know how to use proper grammar? Damn!

    • Jan

Loretta Lynn transcends any musical genre. She’s a legend.

      • Flicker

The words legend and icon get thrown around far too easily these days. But there is no way to overstate how much of a legend Loretta Lynn is. Get well soon, Loretta, you are American royalty.

    • Aura Lee

Yes. EW readers do not know how to use proper grammar though.

  • Dwayne Woosley

  • Dottie

@John – hope you’re kidding, because if you aren’t, you’re an idiot. Faith Hill and Shania Twain are nothing compared to Loretta Lynn. I can’t wait until you are “old” and no one cares that you are sick.

Get Better Soon, Loretta!! Love you!

    • tyiny

      Well said Dottie!!!!!!

    • John

Shania Twain is nothing compared to Loretta Lynn?
Really? If Lynn is such a “legend”, then how come she’s never had a truly global hit that transcends the confines of country radio? Yes, she’s had plenty of hits on country radio, but Shania’s had hits on country, pop, AC and Hot AC radio. Heck, even on the dance charts. Not to mention that nobody outside the USA knows Lynn, while Twain is a global superstar. “The Woman in Me”, Shania’s second album, has sold 12 million copies in the USA, and then, Shania’s 1997 album “Come On Over”, became the best-selling album of all time by a female musician in any genre, and the best-selling country album of all time. It has sold over 40 million copies worldwide. Her last full-length album, “Up!”, sold 20 million copies worldwide. Shania has sold a staggering 80 million albums worldwide. That’s more albums than country “queens” Loretta Lynn, Tammy Winette, and Reba McEntire, COMBINED. Oh, and she has the # 2 biggest-grossing country music tour of all time (behind Garth Brooks). So, yeah…the one true Queen of Country is Shania. The stats do not lie.

      • Bill

I agree. Elvis, the King of Rock n’ Roll and Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, are the two biggest selling men in music history, and Madonna, the Queen of Pop, is the biggest selling woman in music history, Shania is the biggest-selling country female star ever, therefore she is the Queen of Country. Besides, Lynn is best known as the First Lady of Country. Shania will always be the Queen.

Apparently, there are a number of people in this world who have nothing better to do than make derogatory comments or post spam. A pox on all your fingers.

  • Lillie

By the way . . . that’s a veiled reference to Shakespeare, for those of you who are beyond education.

    • Yoshinobu

Mom & Dad of the Little Girl – Steph, what can we say? You always amaze us by out-doing yolresuf! These are just fantastic. We were so fortunate to find you for our wedding and to be able to continue our relationship throughout the new stages of our life. Thanks again and now we have our sights on her two year photos!

  • Lillie

It was a plague and not a pox — and it was your house and and not your fingers, but . . . I wouldn’t want to cast it upon anyone else in your household, as they already have to live with you. :(

  • Jed

Bigtime prayers for Miss Loretta…a true country legend.
