Christopher Chaney, the 35-year-old man accused of hacking into the personal email account of roughly 50 celebrities including Scarlett Johansson, Vanessa Hudgens, Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis, and Christina Aguilera, gave an exclusive interview to a local Fox affiliate in Florida attempting to explain his actions and apologize. ”[The hacking] started as a curiosity and it turned into just being addicted to seeing the behind-the-scenes of what’s going on with these people you see on the big screen every day,” he said. “I was almost relieved months ago when [authorities] came and took the computer and told me what was going on, that they knew. I didn’t know how to stop doing it myself…. I wasn’t attempting to break into emails and get stuff to sell or purposefully put it on the Internet.”
He said he doesn’t remember when, how, or with whom that “pure curiosity” started. ”I deeply apologize. I know what I did was probably one of the worst invasions of privacy someone could experience,” he said. “And these people don’t have privacy to begin with. And I was in that little sliver of privacy they do have. And I’ve had like six months to think about it. It eats at me. When you’re doing it, you’re not thinking about what’s going on with who you’re doing it to.”
Chaney said he plans to plead guilty to all charges.

PS: Scarlett’s boobs are tremendous.
This guy is a hero to us at Fox News. Bill O’Reilly has new spank material for next few months!
real hackers don’t go and mess with people’s stuff.. that is like a hacker rule.. he was a freak
I’m sure a lot of people who have been in a long-distance relationship or been apart from your partner for some time have done it. I’ve done it for my husband lately because I become a new mother several months ago and my hips are bigger…my breasts are bigger. I’m loving it! I feel like more of a woman now. It definitely makes me feel so much sexier than ever before. But it is indefensible to hack into people’s phones or e-mails.
Is this the same Lorraine who usually posts about how old boyfriends only worshipped her for her boobs but her husband loves the whole package? WTF are you selling?
It is good that you have had six months to think about it. Now you’ll get several years to think about those thoughts.
I, for one, won’t villainize him any further. He screwed up, he’ll live with it. He owns up to it, and genuinely too, not the manufactured kind of plea. It’s over. Let it be.
It’s over?! He violated these women by hacking into their private email accounts. In at least the case of Scarlett Johansson he then put nude pics of her on the internet. She can’t stop this pictures. Nah. Sorry. Not enough that he “owns up to it.”
…good point. That was pretty stupid of me to not consider that. My bad.
I wonder how much money he made. He didn’t keep the pictures to himself or he wouldn’t have been found out.
I can’t forgive the guy, but Scarlett, if you don’t want it out there, don’t put the naked pictures on anything anywhere things that are connect to the internet. It makes me laugh when folks say their privacy was invaded when this happens. It’s the equivalent of driving naked in your car. Sure it’s your property, but people who you don’t want to have access to it, WILL HAVE ACCESS TO IT. Sorry Scarlett, your dumb move on this one.
Blaming the victim…? SERIOUSLY?
Well, the bad guys aren’t going to change. The only way to avoid it is if you change. Not the ideal situation, but it is what it is.
@Esox That is completely pathetic. So by that logic, anything that is connected to the internet is up for grabs including bank records, hospital records, etc. The fact that you’re equating private property on your laptop or your phone to driving naked in your car shows what a complete idiot you are.
@Esox, I have to agree with Ray and Charlotte on this one. You had to give your e-mail address to EW to post your message. What if someone’s hacks onto EW’s website and steals your e-mail address and then does criminal activities with that information? What would be your attitude then? The criminal that hacked into Ms. Johansson’s internet connections, could easily hack into your private records through the e-mail address you gave EW. “People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.”
My attitude is that you’re always taking a chance. If you’re not comfortable with the neighbors seeing you sans clothes, close the shades. Otherwise take your chances.
“anything that is connected to the internet is up for grabs including bank records, hospital records, etc. ”
Legally? No. Illegally? Heck yeah. Be careful what you digitize. If someone’s curious enough, the’ll get it.
He’s not saying its right, he’s saying it is what happens. Do you walk down dangerous alleys at nighttime in bad areas? No, you avoid them because you KNOW what COULD happen. If you did walk down that alley and got mugged/raped, we aren’t saying its right, but you should know better.
My point is if you don’t want to be naked all over the internet, don’t assume that your electronics are completely safe. I’m essentially saying if you don’t want to get wet, don’t go near the kid with the SuperSoaker.
Anything that you do online isn’t really private. From blogrolls, to facebook, to email. You are using other people’s servers to deviler your content. At any point along that route you can own that server that transports that data, and you are feel to do whatever you want with it on your network. That’s what they told everyone about the internet 15 years ago.
Is Scarlett to blame? No
Could she have avoided this by just being a bit smarter and realizing that someone out there would love to see these pics? Yes

Great article. I can¡¯t wait to hear more about your research tool. If it is as good as your other products, then you will have another winner. Your article pretty much summed up what I have been seeing too. Great to see some hard data.
