Instantly recognizable character actress Frances Bay, known for playing the grandmother of Adam Sandler’s angry golfer in Happy Gilmore and having a loaf of marble rye stolen from her in an episode of Seinfeld, died Thursday in Los Angeles at age 92, reports the Los Angeles Times. Bay often portrayed kindly old women, but she also turned in some memorably unkindly performances in films like David Lynch’s Wild at Heart and John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness. Most recently, she played Aunt Ginny on the ABC sitcom The Middle.

Matthew Fox avoids criminal charges, faces civil suit for alleged assault

Filed under: Crime, News, TV and tagged:

Cleveland prosecutors have elected not to charge Lost star Matthew Fox after an assault complaint was filed against him last month, reports the Associated Press.

Heather Bormann, a “Party Bus” driver from Cleveland, claimed that on Aug. 28 at 1:30 a.m., Fox attempted to board her bus, which was parked outside of a restaurant called Shooters. Bormann says that Fox demanded she drive him back to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, but because she was hired to a private group, she informed him that he would need to find another ride. She alleged that Fox “attacked [her] with his fists, delivering sudden and severe blows to her right breast, groin, arm and legs, and inflicting severe, disabling injury and pain.” Bormann also suggested that Fox was heavily intoxicated at the time.

Cleveland city spokeswoman Andrea Taylor said in a statement today that the decision to not charge Fox was made “after a thorough review of the facts.” Bormann’s lawyer told the AP that the decision not to pursue criminal charges is a “miscarriage of justice.” Fox’s camp has not provided EW with a comment at this time.

Bormann, meanwhile, has filed a civil suit against Fox, alleging assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, and seeking at least $75,000 in compensatory and punitive damages, as well as all litigation and attorney fees.

Former 'So You Think You Can Dance' choreographer Alex Da Silva guilty of rape

Filed under: Crime, News, TV and tagged: ,

Alex Da Silva, a former choreographer on Fox’s hit show So You Think You Can Dance, was found guilty of raping one woman and assaulting another on Friday, reports the Los Angeles Times. An L.A. county jury found Da Silva guilty of raping a 22-year-old woman in August of 2002. He was also guilty of assaulting a second woman in 2009 with attempt to rape, but the jury was deadlocked on four additional charges of sexual penetration by a foreign object and forcible rape.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy has declared a mistrial on the latter charges, which involved two women. Prosecutors are still deciding whether to seek to retry Da Silva on the additional four counts. All four victims were dancers who met Da Silva, a salsa instructor, through his dance class.

He will appear in court again on Nov. 8 for possible sentencing, and faces up to 14 years in prison.

Michaele Salahi's husband files for divorce, citing relationship with Journey guitarist Neal Schon

Filed under: News, TV and tagged: ,

Tareq Salahi, husband of former The Real Housewives of D.C. star Michaele Salahi, filed for divorce Friday on the grounds of adultery. The Salahis, who were previously known for attending a White House state dinner without an invitation, made headlines earlier this week when Tareq reported his wife missing Tuesday night. The Warren County , Va. Sheriff’s department confirmed that Michaele was fine, staying “with a good friend,” and didn’t want to return home. It was later confirmed that the friend was Journey guitarist Neal Schon.

Schon is mentioned by name in the papers, and Tareq stresses the humiliation caused by the public’s knowledge of his wife’s affair. “Over the objections of me, she continually exposes our friends and acquaintances to her adulterous relationship and has flaunted the same throughout the community, the nation and indeed the world, and thus caused me to suffer great harm, humiliation, and embarrassment,” says the complaint.

He also claims that Schon sent an “email with an attachment of a penis” to his own account, and that Journey paid for Michaele’s “travel, accommodations, and other expenses.” Tareq says that there is no hope for reconciliation, and mentions that the couple has a prenuptial agreement.

White House crasher husband 'devastated' wife left

FRONT ROYAL, Va. – Celebrity White House gate crasher husband Tareq Salahi is glad his wife, Michaele, is OK but heartbroken that she’s left home to be with another man, reported to be lead guitarist for the rock band Journey, the couple’s attorney said Thursday.

Tareq Salahi had reported his wife missing Tuesday night, telling authorities in Virginia he feared she had been kidnapped. Authorities, however, said ex-reality TV personality Michaele Salahi told them she was fine and didn’t want to return home. Then celebrity website TMZ reported that a representative for Journey said she was safe and with guitarist Neal Schon.

“Tareq is devastated but he is relieved to know that Michaele is safe,” Salahi attorney David Silek told ABC’s Good Morning America. “That was his first concern.” READ FULL STORY »

Brad Pitt would like a do-over.

The Moneyball actor issued a statement Thursday night clarifying remarks he made to Parade magazine about his marriage to Jennifer Aniston, which ended six years ago.

Here’s what he said originally:

“I spent the ’90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony. I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t.”

While he expressed dissatisfaction with the relationship — far from the worst thing ever said about an ex — the interview triggered a wave of rage in the blogosphere. Here’s the follow-up statement he sent EW:

“It grieves me that this was interpreted this way.  Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend.  It is an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself – and that, I am responsible for.”
