Instantly recognizable character actress Frances Bay, known for playing the grandmother of Adam Sandler’s angry golfer in Happy Gilmore and having a loaf of marble rye stolen from her in an episode of Seinfeld, died Thursday in Los Angeles at age 92, reports the Los Angeles Times. Bay often portrayed kindly old women, but she also turned in some memorably unkindly performances in films like David Lynch’s Wild at Heart and John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness. Most recently, she played Aunt Ginny on the ABC sitcom The Middle.

I am sorry to here that is what I was trying to say
I remember hearing that she was hit by a drunk driver a few years back and had both of her legs amputated.
She was so dang creepy in the underrated “In The Mouth Of Madness”. If you are a fan of Frances and you haven’t seen it, you owe it to yourself (and her) to seek it out. Condolences to her friends and family.
“Instantly recognizable,” and yet no pic?
Where’s the photo? At least a screen shot or something! C’mon, EW, at least pretend to do the work.
Oh gosh, I loved her in that episode of Seinfeld.
yeah EW you should show a pic or video or something, alas R.I.P. Frances, you will always be Mrs. Russell from “Foul Play” to me, and Sandler’s Grandma!
