What began as a strange, almost humorous news story may end with the suspect spending the rest of her life behind bars. The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Lucinda Moyers, the woman suspected of entering Jeopardy host Alex Trebek’s Bay Area hotel room last week in an attempted burglary, could serve 25 years to life if convicted under California’s “three strike” law. The statute allows juries to sentence defendants who are guilty of “at least two previous violent or serious” to 25 years to life, according to the Chronicle. A representative for the district attorney stated the supposed break-in met the requirements for violent felony charges because Trebek and his wife were in the room at the time. Moyers’ two previous burglary charges date back to the early 90s, and she served an eight-and-a-half years of a 15 year sentence from 1997 to 2006 on a third burglary charge. She is scheduled to appear back in court on Aug. 15.

Faye Dunaway faces eviction in NYC lawsuit
Faye Dunaway will be packing up her Oscar and moving out if her Manhattan landlord has his way. The New York Times reports that Dunaway’s landlord filed a lawsuit yesterday alleging that Dunaway does not live in her rent-stabilized apartment on New York City’s Upper East Side. Instead, the landlord (who is unnamed in court papers) insists that Dunaway’s son, Liam Dunaway O’Neill, lives in the one-bedroom walk-up while Dunaway maintains her actual residence in California. New York’s rent stabilization rules require tenants to live in the apartment they are renting as a primary residence, not as a second home.
Dunaway’s eviction would allow her landlord to increase the rent. She currently pays $1,048.72 per month in a neighborhood where a comparable apartment runs $2,318 on average. Dunaway is set to report to Civil Court on Aug. 11.

Charlie Sheen withdraws lawsuit against Capri Anderson over hotel altercation
Charlie Sheen has quietly withdrawn a lawsuit against Capri Anderson, the adult film actress whom Sheen had alleged tried to extort $1 million from him after a “consensual encounter” at New York City’s Plaza Hotel last October, reports the Associated Press. Sheen had also accused Anderson of stealing a $165,000 watch and then locking herself in his hotel bathroom. The actor reportedly trashed his room while reputedly intoxicated and naked, and was later hospitalized. Anderson later appeared on Good Morning America and alleged that Sheen grabbed her neck and threatened to kill her, claims Sheen denied.
The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning Sheen could re-file at a later date.
