Mel Gibson settles legal battle with Oksana Grigorieva with $750,000 in child support
Mel Gibson has at last settled the rancorous custody and financial battle with his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child, reports People. After over a year of back-and-forth, Gibson agreed Wednesday to pay Oksana Grigorieva $750,000 over the next five years. The money will go toward care and education for Lucia, the former couple’s daughter, who will turn 2 in October. Under the deal, the actor and his ex will split custody equally as Grigorieva and Lucia continue to live in one of Gibson’s homes in Los Angeles. When Lucia turns 18, Gibson will sell the house and put the proceeds in a trust for her. The settlement, which also put to rest a civil suit Grigorieva threatened against Gibson, prohibits both Gibson and Grigorieva from speaking about each other or their relationship publicly. Gibson told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Peter D. Lichtman, “Thanks, your honor, for bringing this case to a reasonable conclusion.”

Rupert Murdoch's News International initiates post-scandal company-wide review
In the wake of the News of the World phone-hacking scandal that ultimately shuttered the 168-year-old paper, Rupert Murdoch has installed a probe of journalistic standards throughout News International, reports the Associated Press. Since the scandal built to a fever pitch, many of Murdoch’s publications (including The Times of London, the Sunday Times, and The Sun) have been blighted by allegations of malfeasance. The company issued a statement saying that the review had been underway for “a number of weeks” with the assistance of London law firm Linklaters. News Corp. independent director Viet Dinh and Murdoch advisor Joel Klein, both of whom have served as U.S. assistant attorneys general, will be supervising the review and overseeing the company’s management and standards committee. Simultaneously, British judge Brian Leveson is leading an independent inquiry that Leveson hopes to televise in coming months.

Hurricane Irene destroys home of rocker Sebastian Bach
Sebastian Bach was one of many to feel the wrath of Hurricane Irene: The former Skid Row singer lost his Red Bank, N.J., house during Sunday’s extreme weather, according to his Facebook page, which included photos of the destruction. “I am numb, in shock, & devastated to report that my home of 21 years, my house featured on MTV Cribs, has been destroyed, condemned, & deemed uninhabitable due to the extreme flooding courtesy of Hurricane Irene,” he wrote, explaining that the extreme flooding caused a nearby bridge to collapse and crash into his garage, “knocking the house off its foundation.” Bach said that all kinds of Skid Row master tapes and rare memorabilia (including some KISS items) were believed to be ruined or missing, and that he plans to relocate to Los Angeles.
Matthew Fox detained after alleged altercation in Cleveland
As TMZ first reported, Matthew Fox was temporarily detained in Cleveland on Saturday night after police investigated an altercation between the Lost actor and a private party-bus driver. Heather Bormann, 29, told authorities that Fox attempted to board her vehicle outside Shooters Bar in the Flats district of the city. When she told him he was trespassing and attempted to stop him, she alleged he struck her repeatedly in the chest and stomach. According to the police report, Bormann hit back, connecting with Fox in the face and causing a cut lip. Fox was not arrested and was released to a friend. A spokesperson for the Cleveland Police said in an e-mail that “Officers do not have to arrest on a misdemeanor charge (assault) unless they witnessed it. For a misdemeanor offense it is up to the victim to consult with a prosecutor to press charges.”
Bormann intends to do just that tomorrow. “Even before [the police officer] told me who he was, I intended to pursue this,” says Bormann. “His first punch landed on my crotch, and his second punch hit my breast. I really felt violated.”
Fox’s representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
