HBO will adapt Carl Hiaasen’s 2004 novel Skinny Dip — a mystery about an heiress who swims to safety while holding onto a bale of marijuana — for television, reports Variety. Michael Oates Palmer and Michael Keaton, who has a wide-ranging first-look deal at HBO, will executive-produce.

I’ve been waiting for this to happen…interested to see how it’s going to work out.
When I read this book years ago I thought it would make a great TV miniseries (his “Stormy Weather” would, too). This is great news.
What an inacurate description of what the book is about… the marijuana thing is literally 1 page of the book. It’s more about a woman who gets pushed overboard by her husband, survives and seeks revenge by trying to drive him crazy.
Lazy journalism (and I usually love Annie!).
Who could play Skink?
Jeff Bridges
Interesting choice…
My father and I are huge Carl Hiaasen fans, and have had many conversations about who could be Skink. I used to think Jeff Bridges would be the perfect choice, but he’s just not tall enough. Skink is HUGE! We’ve come to the conclusion that Tom Selleck, if he could put aside any vanity and dress the part, would be a good choice.
While Selleck’s got that popular tv show on CBS, he could tear himself away a bit for that HBO money and prestige.
Hiaasen can get lame & preachy, but this is one of his best novels and could make a great film! Opening lines: “At the stroke of eleven on a cool April night, a woman named Joey Perrone went overboard from the luxury deck of the cruise liner M.V. Sun Duchess. Plunging toward the dark Atlantic, Joey was too dumbstruck to panic. I married an a—hole, she thought, knifing headfirst into the waves.”
Kurt Russell as Skink

Totally forgot Bo Derek in “10.”

I always thought Skin Tight would make an even better movie… but who would play Chemo?
Christopher Walken for Skink and Woody Harrelson for Chemo. I’m reading “Star Island” and it’s good.
Star Island was awful. I was so excited when that book came out and I blew compared to prior Hiaasen books.
whatever…. theres nothin good on tv these days, jay leno mike and molly and girls gone wild ppvs is all i watch anyway.
