Jonathan Rhys Meyers was hospitalized on Tuesday after paramedics responded to an emergency call and found him slumped on the floor of his London home, the London Sun reports. The Tudors star, who’s struggled with substance abuse, reportedly refused treatment and police were called. “We can confirm we were called by the London Ambulance Service to an address in NW8 to report to a man refusing treatment,” a Scotland Yard spokesman told People. “Police attended, and the man was taken by ambulance to a central London hospital.”
Though some outlets have speculated that his condition was a result of a suicide attempt, a source tells EW that the actor more likely suffered a relapse in his sobriety. Representatives for the actor did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

isn’t that a breach of privacy? aren’t medical matters confidential? if some airhead starlet tweets about her pregnancy 2 hours after conception, tiresome but tolerable. this seems to be nothing the public needs or has a right to know.
This was apparently in London. England may not be so strict as USA.
EW is based in the US and I have no business knowing JRM’s medical issues with people going so far as speculating suicide. I realize this is far from the only time things like this get reported. I do wonder if Jeff LeBrecque would be interested in revealing his medical issues(or those of his family) on an entertainment site.
We are stricter as we don’t release 999 calls like America seems to. They are only heard in court and in one very rare case (it was from ten years ago and was an attempt to gain interest in a case gone cold)but when the media make a request for information they are required to by law but they don’t identify the person or their medical problem. However tabloids like the Sun do dig out more details and will publish them but he would have a very good case to sue if he wanted to as we are stricter with invasion of privacy then America.
I would argue that “couchgrouch” that there seems to be less privacy in America as newspapers can print whatever they want without fear of redress if it is false as the claimant has to prove they did it maliciously and it went against the right to free speech. Also EW did not mention that it may have been suicide so really your the one bringing it up.
I hope he is okay. He is such a gifted actor. He has struggled in his personal life. I truly hope he is going to be fine.
INVASION OF PRIVACY. Lets see what the cruel gossips do with it. Will they make a vicious game of it?
It’s a breach of privacy for someone in the medical field, including non clinician people (billing office, appointment scheduling, insurance company, etc.) to divulge any information about a patient. It is not a breach of privacy for police to confirm that a call was made and the general nature of the call. Unfortunately it also isn’t a breach of privacy for people to speculate. Tastless and rude, but not against any law.
Funny how EW is the only one without a screaming headline about the suicide attempt like all of the others have done.
But WAS it a suicide attempt?
curse of the irish…
I recall stories YEARS ago in his film career of serious heroin use. I think it was an OD, but not a suicide attempt.
Pero que paso?
Stay away from drugs, kids. It’s so sad to see a young, talented man like Jonathan go through this situation.
He’s a self hater.
Is that your roundabout way of saying you think he’s gay?
At the very least, i always thought JRM swings both ways.
Why would you automatically go there?
I hope he gets the help he needs. He has a long productive career ahead of him.
Weekend at Bernies 3?
You’re a D*ck.
Does he have a movie coming out? Anyways. I just don’t understand these actors. They have better lives than a lot of people in the world yet they want to waste it doing drugs, it is pathetic. Go out in the world and see the people less fortunate than you, how they have to struggle to get by each day without a safe shelter or food or water. I’m so sick of these Hollywood primma donnas acting like they are so “depressed.”
I’m pretty sure depression isn’t exclusive to poor and anonymous people. No amount of money and adoration fills that void.
Well said, Whatevs.
exactly. see maslow’s hierarchy of needs. when you have to wonder what you are going to eat tomorrow, you don’t have the “luxury” of contemplating things that may lead to depression. so amy’s thinking is actually quite backwards, psychologically speaking. the more privilege you have in this world, the more likely you are to struggle with your place in the universe and the kind of depression that some might consider self indulgent. also, if depression is due to chemical imbalances (serotonin levels), then it doesn’t matter what is perceived by others as having a ‘great’ life. if you have never experienced depression, you might have a harder time being empathetic to such a situation. instead of passing judgment on what you don’t know, you should be thankful that you don’t know.
Medically diagnosed depression — actual depression — doesn’t care how much money you have or what you look like or what you do for a living. There’s a big difference between some vapid young actress complaining about how fame is soooo hard (yeah I’m thinking of KStew, sorry), and a person suffering from actual depression. Two totally different things.
Wow Amy, that’s a really simplistic and ignorant view of depression.
jj -thanks for the flashback to Psych class. Hadn’t thought of Maslow in years.
He is so talented. Such a good guy. I hope he finally conquers these demons before it kills him.
Not only is he a great actor, he’s also a great musician. And from what I hear, an all-around decent human being, very nice and friendly to his fans. Godspeed Jonanthan.
Depression is a scary thing. Loved him in The Tudors.
Paging Dr.Vulture, er… I mean Dr.Drew.
He suffers from depression you P.O.S.
Dr. Drew suffers from depression?
You are so mature name calling? I was just making a point on the terrible exploitative Dr.Drew and his horrible Rehab shows. If you are ill informed about the long time drug issues of Mr.Meyers it is not my fault. I enjoyed his great acting on The Tudors and wish nothing but the best for him.
I think he’s wonderful. Substance abuse is a difficult situation, and needs to be addressed as a medical issue. He needs some help. I hope he gets it, and gets well. He is such a good-looking and talented actor.
He suffers from depression. Substance abuse and depression are two different things.
Depression can cause substance abuse. So yes, they are often linked and rightly so. He obviously has mental demons to sort out. I wish him well.
ItÂ’s really great that people are sharing this ifonrmation.

It’s sometimes cllaed the darknight of the soul. The morning breaks just as soon as it dawns upon you that no-one will help you, no one can help you except by looking after your body and accepting you. You must face your demons and accept them. Loving your suffering will free you..you will gain a different perspective as you learn not to be afraid of your feelings. You cannot dispel the demons by rejecting them, you have denied them too long already.
