Now that New York State has made gay marriage legal, many long-together couples are looking to make official was already true in spirit. Neil Patrick Harris tweeted that he and his partner, David Burtka, who are raising 8-month-old twins, intend to tie the knot. “David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date.”

Good for him, and good for New York. As a Canadian, I just have one question: What took them so long?
They had a kid out of wedlock! Just like that Palin kid. What a bunch of sluts.
Happy for them – but for a news item, that’s a very judgmental headline! What’s up with the “still”? Do you want to imply that the engagement might be over soon? Isn’t that an item for Awful Truth?
Wll you know how “they” are.
You mean “gay people”? Good to know that you are not homophobic! Eerrr, YES you are!
Marina, I didn’t take the headline to mean that the engagement will be over soon or it shouldn’t have lasted that long. I took it to mean that to our surprise, they’d actually been engaged for 5 years instead of since this weekend when the bill passed.
Marina – if you read the article, it says they proposed 5 years ago. Hence “still” engaged since they haven’t yet offically married. (And technically, yes, the engagement will be over soon – as soon as they get married.)
Old news
Please quit using the term “homophobic” A phobia is a fear, and we are not afraid of these people, just disgusted by their CHOICE of lifestyle
OK then, you prefer bigot? Done and done.
Cool, the ol’ tolerate my lifestyle but I won’t tolerate your opinion and resort to calling you names instead. Hypocrite.
Actually, by being intolerant to any opinions differing from your own, makes you the bigot.
Publicly announcing that you’re “disgusted” by a group of people is almost the textbook definition of a bigot. TQB wasn’t calling anyone names; he/she was stating a fact.
Stop reading into things that aren’t there. He’s not disgusted by a group of people; he is disgusted by their lifestyle. Not the same thing.
OK, please define the lifestyle that is so “disgusting.” Actors? Adoptive parents? Or… Gay people?
Rolo, you keep on pushing this idea that not tolerating bigotry is bigotry. I am very sorry to burst your bubble but that is inaccurate.
I just think it is fun to see how easy it is to get people going.
I know I would prefer gay people stop CHOOSING to live a gay lifestyle. They should all ignore their true feelings, CHOOSE to marry people of the opposite sex, and be miserable their entire lives.
Neil Patrick Harris seems to be pretty happy.
He probably is.
I think Jerry was being sarcastic, Meg?
I do agree that “homophobia” is not the correct term as it does imply fear instead of hatred (à la racism and sexism). Maybe we should start using “homoist?”
Did you “choose” to be heterosexual? I think not. No one “chooses” to be homosexual either. Trust me!

There is too much evil in the world to go around hating people for living lifestyles that in no way affect you.. Its takes all kinds to make to world go round and as long as your happy why should anyone else have any say in that.
Tolerating one’s opinion and tolerating hatred are two different things.
