Google launches cloud-based music player... without any cooperation from music labels

Filed under: News and tagged:

Google will introduce a new cloud-based music player at Google I/O, the company’s developers conference, according to a report by the New York Times. The service (which will initially be invitation-only) will be called Music Beta, and will allow users to store music online and even stream their songs on Android-powered smartphones and tablets. It will directly compete with Amazon’s Cloud Player, which can also run on Droid devices. However, after months of negotiations, it now appears that Google will launch Music Beta without the cooperation of music labels, which means users won’t be able to share their music with other people or purchase music directly from Google.

I’m willing to bet even though they try to limit “sharing”, it will probably still be easier to share music through an Android than an iPhone.

I don’t like the “cloud” crap. I want to OWN my music, my files, etc. The cloud is a scam.
