After tweeting their prayers and good wishes for the people of Japan after March 11′s deadly earthquake, Lady Gaga and other celebrities have started rallying fans to donate to the nation’s earthquake and tsunami relief. Gaga has designed a Japan Prayer Bracelet featuring “We Pray for Japan” written in Japanese and English, with all proceeds going to relief efforts. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park has designed a shirt to benefit Music for Relief’s Tsunami Relief in Japan. Since Friday, other celebrities including Katy Perry, P. Diddy, Conan O’Brien, Chris Brown, and George Takei have urged followers to donate to the American Red Cross, and even Charlie Sheen has vowed to donate $1 from every ticket sold to his live concert show to the Red Cross. I have donated. What I don’t get is why do these celebs not to a “matching” donation or give ONE GIANT amount, why always ask people who make much less than they do?? P Diddy could stop holding that expensive yacht party in Cannes each year and just donate the millions he spends on that to Japan. But nope, they all go back to the ordinary man’s wallet not their own.
Because believe it or not even despite their enormous incomes, their influence actually extends much greater than that. Gaga has more fans than money and I’m sure they are giving as well.
I love her and UKSugarMommies was amazing
What amount is lady gaga herself going to donate?? Oh how nice, she designed a bracelet, how very generous. Why don’t we hear HOW MUCH they donated themselves!?!?!?!?
I think if celebrities did announce how much they were donating, then people would criticize them for the amount, or for “showing off” how wealthy they are. Bottom line, someone is always going to criticize something that a celebrity does. I don’t blame them for wanting to keep as much information private as possible. As another person on here said, it really is none of our business.
Is that really any of your business? She’s urging you to donate, she’s not asking for your yearly income and how much you donated. I doubt she’d judge…
Right, and how noble of Charlie Sheen to take time away from his “Bat-Sh!t Crazy Tour” and suddenly give enough of a fvck to donate $1. He must be upset this tsunami/earthquake tragedy took away from his air time on CNN and now he has to find a way back in to the public’s consciousness. Lame.
not that its your business but Lady Gaga donated $1.5 million, and thats in addition to the $1.5 million her bracelets have raised so far. Gaga doesnt care about money, shes a selfless person, dont make assumptions.
Where did you find this information from?
That braclet is pretty gawdy-looking. At least the message is right.
Is it though? Forgive my cynicism, but it seems the bracelet is just a way of announcing to everyone around you that you donated to a worthy cause. Isn’t knowing that you’ve done a selfless thing to help others enough? Why the need to advertise it?
in it’s defense…I believe it’s more of a unity symbol, a unit of support…and it does say ‘We Pray for Japan,” rather than “I Gave Money to Japan.”
I don’t think it is really any of our business how much celebrities are donating.
That, and I think people also need to remember a lot of celebrities already have charities they work extensively with and support. Also – yes, it’s great when they donate their own money, but if their fans have $10 or even just $5 to donate, and don’t know how, then it’s kind of nice to get a little direction.
This is really touching
:)
Lady Gaga is VERY generous with her money and donates ALOT of money to various charities. Do your homework Shannon before making comments.
Don’t buy that tacky bracelet. Just donate your money directly to the Red Cross. That idiot will do anything to get her name in the news again. She’s such an attention whore. You don’t know how much of the money Gaga is actually keeping for herself to buy more drugs or stupid outfits. .
Actually a lot of celebrities DO actually donate alot of their own money…the reason she prob put her name on it was b/c she knew her fans would donate and she has ALOT of fans….and if she stated she is donating the money to relief efforts im sure that she is telling the truth as the IRS and government are after celebrities who try and cheat the system through charity programs like Wyclef did during the Haiti earthquake realif funds…alot of the money went into his own pocket not back to the people like he said it would…
Did Jack Donaghy already have a celebrity benefit filmed for this particular disaster?
I mean, this type of thing is definitely nothing new for Gaga, as with most of the celebs I imagine. For a few days following the disaster in Haiti 100% of her online store purchases went to relief efforts.
I’m glad Lady Gaga designed the bracelet and is asking for donations. She is who she is, and she is using it in a good way.
I was sad to see only a few thousand died.
What Gaga is doing with the Prayer bracelets is more for us than Japan. She’s opening her fans up to being educated and to care about world events. Lady Gaga is doing what any marketing master would and that is to get others involved in their projects (whether that be movies, music, or charity). This is a matter of getting a new generation into current events and making them feel like they can help and be charitable without having to give to red cross, whom turns down the lgbt community in most cases. Spreading awareness one bracelet at a time, what’s wrong with that? You can bet your ass Lady Gaga has donated more than our ‘ordinary wallets’ not out of obligation but out of compassion and doing the humane thing. It is her obligation to get her fans involved and to help, and she has done just that.
