Image Credit: Dan DionComedian Mike DeStefano, best known for his stint on last season’s installment of Last Comic Standing, has died, his rep confirms to EW.
In a statement, his representative said: “We are indeed incredibly saddened by the loss of this amazing man. He had touched the lives of many with his unique brand of comedy and was looking forward to sharing the same with so many more. Mostly, we will all miss his huge heart and incredibly loving and selfless passion for people. Our friend Mike DeStefano passed away on March 6.”
The Bronx-born comedian, a rehabilitated drug addict-turned-counselor who placed fourth on the NBC reality competition last season, reportedly suffered a heart attack.
I really liked him on that show. As sad as the situation is, it’s a little bit of a relief to know that it wasn’t drugs that took him.

it’s a relief to know that a man died of a heart attack, not drugs? I would keep my comments to myself in the future.

It’s true, unfortunately. Even though he didn’t die of an overdose, it’s highly likely that at such a young age and with a history of drug abuse, this heart attack wouldn’t have happened otherwise.

Fennville’s undefeated boys basketball season took a tragic turn Thursday night when standout player Wes Leonard (High School Sports Network bio.) collapsed on the court moments after leading the Blackhawks to a 57-55 overtime win against Bridgman at home.
The 16-year-old junior was rushed by ambulance to Holland Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The cause of death is unknown, according to hospital officials.
Actually, that kid died of a genetic condition (enlarged heart). Mike was a hardcore drug user, which stresses the heart so much that it’s very hard to recover from. If he had any kind of congenital heart issue, he unfortunately was a ticking time bomb. Really too bad, he was pretty funny.
why post about Wes (the Fennville kid)? Yes, he had an enlarged heart (although we don’t know if it was genetic, viral or other right now) but the two situations are completely different.

Most drugs don’t have an effect on the heart, but cocaine is the glaring exception. Cocaine kills myocardial cells, the muscle fibers of the heart. People who did a lot of coke face a much higher risk of heart attack.

He just seemed like “the real deal,” a good human being who sincerely cared about and could really touch and reach people.
I really liked him on Last Comic Standing. He had a refreshing sense of humor for a guy with his past issues. My jaw hung open when I read this article. Sad, sad news. God bless his family!

Yes, his heart attack was probably linked to his drug abuse. And ya know what? That doesn’t matter to the family and friends who mourn his death.

Remember the high school basketball player who died of a Heart Attack last week? I’m sure he wasn’t doing drugs. We all go sometime right. Maybe heaven needed a laugh eh!

That young BB player did not die from a heart attack – a blockage of an artery supplying blood to the heart. He died from sudden cardiac death – the heart beating too fast to efficiently pump blood to the brain, lungs, body and other vital organs.
DeStefano may have simply had a high level of cholesterol in his blood and developed a blockage. Or, drug abuse may have damaged his heart – we will never know.
Not so fast my friend. Sudden cardiac death refers to an arrhythmia (v tach or v fib)that leads to inefficient delivery of blood to the vital organs. It can be brought on by a heart attack or blockage of the coronaries. I know, my Dad died of it.
