Former Little House on the Prairie actress Melissa Gilbert and her husband of 16 years, Bruce Boxleitner, of the TRON movies, have split, a rep confirms to People. The couple, who wed in 1995, has one son together and three from previous marriages. “We have loved each other for a very long time and we share four incredible sons together,” Gilbert said in a statement to the magazine. “On behalf of our family we ask to be allowed our privacy during this very difficult time.”

It always strikes me as odd (and a bit sad) when a longtime celebrity couple breaks up. At least Dick and Paula are still together.
1. It is good publicity.
2. If they cheat on each other, they can’t easily hide it from the public eye, which leads to divorces when they get cought.

I’m so sad to read this. I read Melissa’s book last fall and she talked about how deeply in love she was after all these year. I hope there wasn’t cheating involved. Sad to say this, but according to Melissa’s book she has a history of cheating on her spouse when things go sour, long before the official breakup.

If she would have married me in the first place, she could have avoided all this messy divorce stuff. Why do actors almost always marry actors? Don’t they know that opposites attract?
