Fashion designer John Galliano, who was suspended on Friday by Christian Dior following an incident at a Paris cafe in which he was accused of assault and insulting a couple with anti-Semitic epithets, is now facing a second, similar charge. In addition, there might be video tape from a third incident. In an undated clip posted on the London Sun‘s website, a seemingly intoxicated man who resembles Galliano tells a couple that he admires Adolf Hitler and says that, “People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f—ing gassed.”
According to People, all three incidents took place at the same La Perle cafe. Under French law, anti-Semitic remarks are a criminal offense that can lead to jail time. Galliano’s representative had no comment, but confirmed that his upcoming fashion show scheduled for March 6 will go ahead as planned.

Anything one says critical of Israel, Israeli’s, or Jews can end up being considered “Anti-Semitic”.
When can we critize these people?
Evidently not at a certain Paris cafe!
There’s a world of difference between objectively criticizing a country or a religion and making remarks clearly meant to belittle a person by their ethnic affiliation. Telling a person that their family should’ve been killed in the gas chambers that were at the concentration camps is CLEARLY anti-Semitic.
The thing is, the people he assaulted weren’t Jewish to begin with. Does that make his remarks anti-Semitic? Non-Jews were gassed as well, so I’m not sure how interpret his words. It’s insulting none the less.
Whether or not the people he insulted were genuinely of Jewish descent is irrelevant, his choice of words speaks for itself. It’s no different than calling someone who’s straight a homophobic slur, just the fact that you choose a certain term to demean what you (wrongly or rightly) perceive to be that person’s sexual orientation will say volumes about your mindset in of itself.
No True Blue, like I already said, he didn’t use any anti-Semetic slurs. And the fact that you would consider his remarks anti-Semetic and racist, says a lot about your own racist mindset.
Voodoo, you’re not making any sense.
Robert – What did your ancestors do to deserve to be gassed? Were they really honest, innocent people or the same rat face liars and thieves like madoff or those that work at goldman sachs and are self proclaimed chosen people? I am not supporting hitler because he is a failure who had an opportunity to improve the world. Why dont jews understand that their behavior is immoral and disgusting and they deserve a response that is equally offensive.
…and well deserved. mozel tov
You forgot to add “duh”. But I think it’s implied.
I am not going to repeat what Galliano said, but if you watch the video you will see that he is clearly spewing hate and not being “critical” of jews.
Dude, that’s like saying the N-word is just constructive criticism. It’s like you only read the headline…
Who cares what he says? How is this a crime? Anybody?
Did you read the article? It clearly states “Under French law, anti-Semitic remarks are a criminal offense that can lead to jail time.”
Christopher you and Galliano belong together along with Mel Gibson and now Charlie Sheen. How would you feel if your ancestors were gassed? It happened to millions of Jews for no reason other than their faith.
Please, enough with the Holocaust card already. Thousands of Africans died in the Middle Passage and the ones that lived were made slaves in America, but we blacks don’t control TV and films, so the world doesn’t know this fact.
That doesn’t change the Holocaust or make it right. And this article is about a man who admires Hitler and clearly hates Jews. No cards are being played. The Holocaust is somewhat relevant to the article. It’s okay to deplore both situations. You don’t have to choose.
And it’s millions of Africans, not thousands. I guess you’re right about people not knowing this fact since you can count yourself among them.
I think what he said is awful and he is a total a-hole, obviously. But should you be PROSECUTED for saying what he said? Not sure about that. People should have the right to say stupid stuff, no matter what I think of it…
“How is this a crime? Anybody?”
the police were called last week because he allegedly dragged the woman he insulted by her hair in the bar. Since then, it has transpired that he has also sat down on other occasions near innocent customers minding their own business and ranted at them using offensive, anti-semitic language.
In more European countries there are much stricter laws against incitement and harassment and anti-semitism (remember: this is the continent where 6,000,000 Jews were murdered just a few decades ago: it is still enormously sensitive.)
Bizarre, twisted and warped melt down indeed.
I wonder if this idiot realizes that he would not be spared by the Nazis either. A gay man dressed like a pirate would have been sent to the gas chambers by the Nazis.
Excellent point, Laura!
Better watch out Johnny Depp!
I’ve been wondering the exact same thing. Does he not get that Hitler would’ve done away with him, too? How does he not understand the irony of what he’s saying?
Laura,I actually laughed out loud when I read your comment!!! Wonderful, hysterical point.. However, this man is truly a bigot.
Christopher – He wasn’t being critical … he was being hateful. Are you bit hateful yourself or just critical and insensitive?
I happen to be “Jewish-I guess one of the ‘pigs’ which Galliano mouths off at (in his words, not mine obviously) and I would be shocked if Dior would have him cut a piece of cloth for the Christian Dior House!” Dior will be committing corporate suicide since we all know that the majority of Dior’s client-base are Jewish socialites and professionals. I would “rather be shot or ‘gassed’ than purchase anything from Dior from this day on!! I happen to know that the CEO of Dior, Mr. Sidney Toledano, is Jewish and applaud you for this move. I, as a child of a loyal Dior shopper and fan, must be rolling over in her grave right now. She, like myself and others that I know, are all going to boycott Dior unless GALLIANO IS FIRED. He does not deserve to work for DIOR. If he ever had the “nerve to say 1/3 of what he did to the people in that coffee house in Paris – he would have said his LAST WORDS”! Not one Jewish person I know would tolerate his verbal abuse nor any of his other “bully” behavior. FIRE THAT “pig”- he will not work unde the name “Galliano” ever again. He will have to change his name “like one of the frightened Nazis did” after World War II. KUDOS TO DIOR for suspending him and once I know he is fired I will wear your clothes again!!!!
Where did he talk about Jews?
It looks like he has a history of admiring Hitler and he mentioned gas chambers. While I realize that it was not only Jews killed in the Holocaust, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out he’s got a problem with Jewish people. Stop with the semantics already.
Anyone thinking that they can behave in this manner can only be described as an idiot. That Dior should have him on staff is unacceptable to say the least. Hope to see the upcoming “show” of their line take this into consideration. Dior will hopefully realize that most would rather there were no show at all than sitting through anything this person thought up. Selling it? well perhaps there are some neo-natzi’s (?sp?)out there with some money to spend.
Sick, Disgusting Hate Mongering A Hole!!!!
People in fashion should be valued for their artistic sensibilities and aesthetic talents. His opinions have nothing to do with his talent. If he had insulted Norwegians, Czechs, the Belgians etc this would have been blown over and laughed at but touch the “chosen” people and you lose your job. Reprisal for racism should not be selective it should apply equally to all but that is so obviously not the case.Political Correctnes, anti semitism, tolerance and diversity have gone too far. Even the heads of state of the major European countries agree that multiculturalism DOES NOT WORK.
If your business was mostly successful because Jewish people bought from you and it would not be near as successful if they didn’t, you might understand them firing him. It would ruin them to keep him.
Natalie Portman handled it exactly right. She spoke out about the comments, stated that she’s not wearing his clothes anymore and left it at that. Good for her. I wish more people could learn from her example.
John Galliano has come from nothing, because of talent which lets face it he has got, he has used and abused his position, when he speaks people listen, but what filth comes out of his privileged mouth is disgusting, we are not the so called chosen people we are just people that believe in a religion and i for one am very proud to be Jewish.
Dior will make a big show of “firing” Galliano, but they will continue to pay him and he will still design, they just won’t use his name. In a year or two he will re-emerge. Maybe he will go to “rehab” or anger mgmt or something and his publicist will make a big deal over it. No biggie. Internet outrage lasts 10 minutes tops. Already Galliano has pushed Charlie Sheen off the front page. See what I mean?
What does all the complaining about jew haters accomplish? Is it going to magically transform him into a model citizen? If anything it has provided him a larger base of clientle.
