Lindsay Lohan remains at Betty Ford; still under investigation for probation violation
Image Credit: David Tonnessen/PacificCoastNews.comThough Lindsay Lohan reportedly checked out of substance-abuse treatment at the Betty Ford Center yesterday, law enforcement authorities from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said that the actress violated her probation when she engaged in a scuffle with Dawn Holland, an employee of the Center, according to CNN. Holland, who was dismissed by Betty Ford after speaking to the press about the incident, is no longer cooperating with authorities, but Lohan could conceivably still face battery charges. “It is expected that this investigation will be sent to the district attorney’s office later this week,” the sheriff’s office said. [Update: The Los Angeles Times reports that Lohan has not yet left Betty Ford and is planning to stay at the clinic for a few more days. Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, issued the following statement about the investigation: "The important, yet limited, investigatory role of the police to gather facts and collect evidence is well-established. The fact that the Palm Desert Police Department went outside this limited role to issue a press statement expressing its opinion about what should happen in Ms. Lohan's case is highly unusual and deeply troubling."]

Zsa Zsa Gabor's doctors delay plans to amputate leg
Zsa Zsa Gabor’s doctors are holding off on amputating the lower part of her leg while they treat her with antibiotics, People reports. “Over the next two days, the doctors are treating her with powerful antibiotics in the hope that they will affect the lesion on her lower leg,” Gabor’s rep John Blanchette told People. If the antibiotics don’t work, Blanchette says doctors “will have to amputate. She will lose the lower half of her leg below the knee.” Gabor, 93, was hospitalized Sunday night.

Actors' Equity Prez addresses 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' injuries
Nick Wyman, the president of the Actors’ Equity Association, has issued a statement on the AEA’s website regarding the widely reported injuries suffered during performances of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. “I have been very disturbed and distraught by the serious injuries sustained by our member Chris Tierney at the Dec. 20 performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” Wyman writes on the site. “That Chris is not the first actor, nor the second, but rather the fourth to be injured on Spider-Man is frustrating and maddening and, to some, infuriating.” (Tierney is set to be released from the rehab center where he is being treated for a hairline skull fracture, broken ribs, a broken scapula, and other injuries sustained during a performance of Spider-Man.)
The long statement also claims that Equity has met with the production, OSHA, and the Department of Labor to ensure safety on the stage, and is looking forward to an injury-free future during the Spider-Man‘s run. “I understand the wish to point fingers, to find someone who is culpable,” Wyman writes. “The more useful, productive exercise is to discover what we can do to improve things, to prevent a recurrence of this accident. This is what our staff has been doing.”

Anne Francis of 'Forbidden Planet' dies
Anne Francis, who co-starred in the sci-fi classic, Forbidden Planet, and played a glamorous — and groundbreaking — female detective in Aaron Spelling’s Honey West, has died. The Los Angeles Times reports that the actress died in Santa Barbara, Calif., of complications related to pancreatic cancer. She was 80 years old. In Forbidden Planet (1956), Francis played the alluring daughter of the scientist played by Walter Pidgeon, who together were the only two survivors on a mysterious space colony.
Zsa Zsa Gabor hospitalized for partial leg amputation
Zsa Zsa Gabor’s ailing health took a turn for the worse Sunday night when she was taken to the hospital to have the lower part of her right leg amputated, People reports. “She developed a lesion on the leg that had swollen a while back and caused her to go to the hospital for treatment, but it has not responded,” said Gabor’s spokesman, John Blanchette. “In fact, it has increased in size, and the doctors have wanted to operate for several days…. [Gabor's husband, Prince Frederic von Anhal] and Zsa Zsa asked if they could spend New Year’s at home, and [they] shared champagne and caviar. The doctors came to the house today [Sunday], and when they unwrapped the bandages, [they saw that] the wound had festered and they were afraid of gangrene developing, which would be life-threatening.”
Gabor will lose the lower half of her leg below the knee.
Last summer, Gabor had surgery to replace her hip, which she’d broken in a fall; three weeks later she was rushed to the hospital to have a blood clot removed. The actress has been in a wheelchair since being paralyzed in a 2002 automobile accident, and she had a stroke in 2005.
UPDATE: Doctors have decided to delay amputation while they attempt to treat Gabor’s leg with antibiotics.
