Ted Williams to enter rehab, thanks to Dr. Phil

Ted Williams revealed to Dr. Phil McGraw, in an episode of Dr. Phil set to air tomorrow, that he had resumed drinking alcohol and agreed to enter a private treatment facility for his addiction. According to a statement from the Dr. Phil Show, Williams was joined by his family on the show and they discussed the recent altercation with his daughter as a Hollywood hotel that drew police attention. “If Ted is ever going to get better, he’s got to be honest with himself and admit he’s addicted to drugs and alcohol,” said Dr. Phil, in the show’s release. “I’ve told him it’s not going to be easy and it’s going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a big step in the right direction.”

The kind of pressure the man’s been under, I’m not surprised. Thank God, he was smart enough to reach out for help. My grandfather was in a similar situation years ago, and he stayed sober and won back the wife and daughter he deserted.
    I’ll be praying for him.

What a great comment. So many comments and boards you read, people are so rude and negative. What a refreshing site to see someone with a positive view. I agree, good for him for reaching out and getting help now before it gets worse. The public eye can be so scrutinizing.

I’m with you in wishing this man and his family a better present and future.

I agree that all these people with all negative nasty remarks, must have a sad life? So they now have a place to voice all their rude comments. They need to give the guy a break, as he’s being bombarded with so much right now. And as for the Dr Phil rating comments, well I’ve got news for them, he genuinely cares for people, and has helped so many regardless of ratings.

      Well said.

    • Jeff

This guy will be back on the same street corner in Columbus, OH by July 4ht, if he doesn’t die from a crack overdose.

  • Andre

Good thing Dr. Phil was there to get the ratings, I mean to help him.

I have helped alot of people overcome obsticles in their life and do not approve of the way Doctor Phil handle this situation with Ted Williams by trying to tear him down even more for ratings on his show. Ted Williams needs positive & encouraging spiritual people in his life to advance his gifts not pessimistic worldly advice that draws him to his past. Thank all the companies for helping & giving this man a job like Kraft Foods. I’m praying for Ted Williams success.

You should offer a proverbial hand of help, not a proverbial hand to slap.

but it’s so much funner to punch people while they’re down, didn’t you know that?

How many times have you made a mistake and how many times have judgment been passed on you because of your erroneous ways?

2011 Mantra: “There but by the grace of YouTube go I.”

There is always reality behind the fairy tales that the press sells us. This man has real problems that need to be addressed and one or two lucrative contracts won’t solve them. I hope that he is on the right track, but it is going to take hard work and time.

  • jfms777

He sure does have problems. Was it really 9 arrests? Or only 7? lol

  • whatevs

It’s a good thing that help has come so soon. People have to remember that you’re not homeless because you’re normal.

  • joker

What a media wh@re… and that homeless guy too

  • SLB

I’m already sooooo over this guy.

  • Miss Talk

Good move, TED. This is your last chance to make it right.

So many mean-spirited comments from people who have clearly never experienced a loved one’s life being destroyed by addiction. Or had their own life torn apart by it. Anyone LOLing about Ted Williams and his shattered life should be ashamed of themselves… I am no fan of “Dr.” Phil, but if he somehow helped this fragile man – and his long-suffering family – on the long, hard road to recovery and a successful life, then good for him.

    • Sally

Your comments are so right on. I wish this man all success and joy!

    • Jeff

Now he has a whole bunch of money to buy a whole bunch of drugs and die.

      • Dicazi

Why do you think he has a lot of money. Most news programs don’t pay (or say they don’t) for guests. I think he’s done 1 paying job.
I think there’s a lot of “hangers-on” that would love to provide drugs and alcohol gratis just to get paid by the tabloids for a scoop.

  • TJ

Well, I’m glad. It’s what he needs instead of all the media attention. Now we’ll see how sincere a lot of those job offers were now and see if they’ll be there after he gets his treatment.

  • Kristen

Didn’t he die a few years ago and they froze his head? I thought he was in a vault next to Walt Disney not headed to rehab with Lindsay Lohan.

    • Nate

That’s what I heard, too… Too bad after he retired from the Red Sox his life went downhill.

      • Jeff

Yeah, he was the manager for the Senators

  • PLUS4TED

I’m inspired by Ted’s story, and equally impressed that he has admitted to a problem. Any guy in his situation is bound to have them. We all have backstories. He resonates so much with us, I believe, because he represents the true American dream – someone with obvious talent who hit rock bottom and is finding his way. Let’s wish him and his family well during this amazing yet difficult time.

  • Zturk

Yeah all the Lucrative contracts he got recently just gave him money to fuel his addictions you cant move on without dealing with your root problems. He probably will never be able to kick this 20 year habit he has but I sincerely wish him the best in his effort and hopes he keeps trying.
