Lindsay Lohan accuser fired

Filed under: News and tagged:

Dawn Holland, the Betty Ford Center employee who filed a criminal complaint against Lindsay Lohan after an alleged physical confrontation, has been fired for speaking publicly about the incident. A statement on the Betty Ford website reads:

“In the three decades since our doors opened to patients Oct. 4, 1982, the Betty Ford Center and its employees have respected the privacy of our patients, all our patients. Ninety-six thousand women and men have come to the Center for addiction treatment over the past 28 years. When patients come to the Center for treatment, they come to a safe place where their identity is protected, where anonymity is safeguarded.  Their simple priority when in treatment is to learn how to live a life free of alcohol and other drugs. Confidentiality and trust are key to the treatment and recovery process. Regrettably, on December 21, 2010, one of our employees violated patients’ confidentiality by talking to the media and by disclosing a privileged document. That employee has been terminated by the Betty Ford Center.”

Holland had given an interview about the incident to TMZ, explaining that the story was already public, that Lohan was vilifying her and that Betty Ford had failed to support her.

        DIAF, spammer.

    • FaithMore

Lindsey Lohan continues to be disgusting. I just read about a young singer who is at least trying to move foward with his life but he receives constant ridicule for trying! This chick does WTF she wants to do wheneverTF she wants to do it and everybody simply coddles her. Now the person who was attacked has to pay!I am done with Lohan and this fake baised media!

      • david

Are you sure you’re done with Lohan, FaithMore? I’m only asking because I noticed that you have left another comment further down the page 13 minutes after this one.

  • jason

    You people make sick!who cares!

    • Caryll

The only real relevance that I see in stories like this is in the “role model” aspect. Whether or not they want or deserve it, a lot of young people look towards celebrities and their lifestyles as being the right patterns to emulate. Otherwise I agree, this makes me sick.

      • Badlands

Ummm, not sure what year you’re still living in, but how many young people do you think are really looking up to Lindsey Lohan these days? She’s a far cry from 2004 when she was the new ‘it’ girl. She’s done nothing of value ion 4 or 5 years, in which time, her once-target demo has grown up and moved on. Impressionable tweens today have their own celebrity obsessions. They only know her as a tabloid joke. Now if one of the Twilight douchebags was in the news for this stuff, maybe your point would have some validity. Otherwise, people, stop blindly playing the role model card.

    • Tyronne

If it makes you sick then what are you doing here then. How did you get in here if you didn’t click on it? I too think it’s silly but it’s still fun to read and comment. You want to act like your above all this when you are engaging just as we are. Your full of it.

      • bruceben9

i agree. jason is about as disingenuous as a dude can be.he makes me sick.

  • Ron J

So…this woman gets fired from her job for speaking publicly, but Lohan, who arrived late from her curfew and was intoxicated, against court order, isn’t in jail?

    • tarc

Neither you or I have no idea what actually happened, and whatever did happen was contractually protected by both medical and professional rules. This woman deserved to be fired and blackballed for selling (likely lies) for cash. Lohan has addiction and mental health issues; what is the nurse’s excuse for horrible behavior?

      • anne

Fact–Lohan was out in a bar while in rehab. Fact–she was confronted by a staffer. Why do we continue to make up excuses for
Lohan who has been given every chance to be a decent person? “Addiction and mental health issues”, huh? How about Lohan’s arrogance, deceit and thumbing her nose at the world? And you, ‘tarc’–also have no idea what ‘actually happened’ so why assume the staffer was selling her story? Police records indicate the story was already out before the staffer made any statement. I’d believe her any day before the lying Ms. Lohan.

      • mebs60

Agreed! This is the reality of this situation. A patients privacy is what is first and foremost. Further, the BFC is a top notch center in California. Termination of employees in California are ruled by more stringent labor laws than in other states. Gross misconduct is one of the areas which can lead to immediate termination. As a patients rights advocate, this would be considered gross misconduct.

To others who say “who cares”? First, I agree. Lohan news is old and tiring. To me the story is not so much about LL, but about patient rights.

      • dee roc

You say she deserves to be fired after you state you don’t know what actually happened? Wow.

      • Me

Correct. It’s called HIPAA. This lady worked in a treatment facility. Frankly, she should expect to have incidents with those being treated. They aren’t there to learn French but get clean.

      • Don

Lohans hole family sould be there

      • Aaron

The woman broke confidentiality of the patients, she got what she deserved. Bottom line. It also make her credibility drop to nothing. Thus the entire story was made up. So many trying to latch on to Lohan’s fame. Pathetic.

    • Mr. fusion

      Two separate instances.

One is a medical disease that is being treated. While not a Lohan fan, I do wish her the best in overcoming this affliction. Criminal enforcement should be the last resort with any disease.

The other is the breach of confidentiality. The employee can only hope that she is not sued for that breach. For the employee’s sake, I hope this didn’t rise to a HIPPA violation which could end up hurting the Center.

      • anne

Why do you give Lohan every benefit of the doubt and none to the employee? And I guess I’m sick of the words ‘affliction’ and ‘disease’. If it’s a disease, it’s one she’s worked hard on aquiring.

      • dirk

People who call addictions a “medical disease” are pathetic, and are just pi__ing over people who have real medical diseases like cancer. What’s the “cure” for addiction? Change your behavior. Is it easy? Of course not. Doesn’t change the fact that it’s OBVIOUSLY not a disease if it’s entirely defined by, and ceases to exist solely on your behavior.

“Offensive” is so overused these days that it’s almost become a nonsense word, but calling addiction a “medical disease” is blatantly offensive.

      • Rich

Why do people such as yourself insist on enabling people like LL. She has had every chance to change her behavior. Being in a treatment center does not give you the right to attack the staff. And frankly I believe there is no such thing as “bad” publicity when you are an actor! Supporting people like LL is exactly what is wrong with our society-the false sense of entitlement if you are rich and famous.

      • Blake

Police reports are public domain. Anyone accused of battery, DUI, child abuse, murder, robbery, etc. is found in the news every day, usually with a mug shot; guilty or not, just like Lohan has been many times. Once that report was filed, the public had every right to know it. Police reports are not confidential and as long as the staff didn’t talk about Lohan’s treatment, then she did noting wrong.

    • Kris

We don’t know what actually happened. The worker’s story makes no sense. She claims that 90 pound Lindsay grabbed her hand when she tried to pick up the phone, spraining her wrist (seriously, how weak is this worker?), all because the worker wanted to call the police yet it was Lindsay who later called 911. I’m no advocate of hers but why would she go through the trouble of assaulting someone for trying to call the police if she was going to do it anyway?

    • FaithMore

LOL did you really expect her to go to jail for once again violating the law? LMAO that like saying Charlie Sheen who was 6 days from the end of his probation for beating another one of his wives, should be punished for attacking yet a 5th women. Certain ppl in America are golden and will never pay for their crimes. SMFH

    • Jace

So lemme get this right, Lindsay Lohan should be treated just like anyone else according to her haters, except when it comes to her patient confidentiality and privacy? Ha… The hypocrisy is sickening.

  • John

She doesn’t deserve to be in the news.

  • Russ

We love you, Lindsey! Hang in there!

    • WankyMcTurd

… but not enough to spell your name correctly. :-O

  • Derek Bolander

What would it take to no longer see Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton in the news? Bunch of non-deserving, self-entitled, aristocrats.

Not worth the powder to blow them to hell.

    • Hooch

It would take people not posting comments on articles related to them, thus indicating to EW that no one cares enough to read about them. Except we clearly do.

  • Tuc Brinton

It is shameful that the Betty Ford Clinic has such reverance for its clients but no respect whatsoever for its staff. But then it’s the rich clientele who have made the Clinic so obscenely wealthy, so maybe we should not be suropised that it puts profit way ahead of justice.

    • Sally

Betty Ford Clinic has been treating people (including celebs) for many many years. One of their ideals is privacy. The nurse blew it by talking to the press.

I agree with the nurse pressing charges (presuming they are true), but when she talked to TMZ she violated that privacy and Betty Ford’s only legal response had to be to fire her. I think any medical institution would have done the same.

    • Buffy Freak

What? doctors and nurses are supposed to respect the notion of patient confidentiality. Even if this incident happened exactly as this woman says, she has no right to publically announce it. She put the clinic and herself in the position of being sued, therefore the clinic had not only the right but the duty to fire her.

      • Kris

Agreed. If they didn’t fire her, I would have lost respect for them.

      • Sue1

Thank you, Sally, Buffy Freak, Kris and everyone else who realized the nurse violated patient confidentiality and deserved to be fired. Admitting that is not to defend LL but simply stating the truth.

    • Mr. fusion

Wrong. Medical staff are under certain restraints by law. Divulging confidential patient information can be a crime.

ANYONE buying something or paying for a service has an expectation they will receive that product or service. Regardless of the cost, The Betty Ford Center includes confidentiality along with their treatment.

This employee damaged the Center by divulging patient information.

    • S

      Tuc,
Its class paranioa like yours that is screwing up the country. Lohan is to be pittied. Her parents have used her as a pawn, the industry has used her for profit. She has choice, but addiction to the point she has which overides even the survival instinct is a serious problem. Really she needs to be in a 24×7 lock down to get dry and have any hope. When I htink about the cute girl in the Disney movies it makes me sad. The employee sold out someone there to get help for the sake of $$.. that is where the corruption and greed is. Trust is something we can all have and value no matter our job level.

  • SLB

Nice to see this spoiled, privileged skank got an honest working person fired from their job around the holidays.

    • anne

      Amen, SLB.

      • Sue1

        She got herself fired.

    • Paul

      @Tuc Brinton

How is this woman honest? She violated HIPAA regulations. Patient confidentiality is required in the medical profession. We have a right to privacy in this country, and that right extends into our medical condition as well. If your boss called your doctor and the doctor said “He has AIDS” or “He has chronic diarrhea,” that would be violating your privacy. Lindsay Lohan’s rights to privacy, as granted in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, were violated. End of discussion. You can’t violate people’s rights because they are celebrities and you don’t like them. This was not an honest staffer. This was someone who was trying to make money by selling confidential information about another human being who is given a right to privacy. For once Lindsay is right. Shame on you sick, inhuman bloodhounds. You just love tasting the blood of other people.

      • Mark

Nice to see some comments defending the clinic and bashing the employee for violating privacy regulations that conflict with her own safety and rights.

If an employee is assaulted by a client, the privacy of that client becomes null. You people seriously expect that anyone in “any” clinic should keep their mouths shut after an assaulted? The clinic should be sued for attempting to conceal this crime of assault.

Alright, if privacy does come first, then we can expect that clients are allowed to put guns on an employees face and rape them since they’d be protected by the clinics privacy regulations. No one would know of the crime that took place, and Lohan would getaway with breaking another law which any ordinary human being would of received a harsher sentence for.

      • Paul

        @Mark

There are avenues of legal recourse that don’t involve selling information to TMZ for $15,000. You go to the police. Going to the police is not a violation of patient privacy. Selling information to a tabloid for FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS is. Just so I’m understanding, in your world, you think that a patient giving a nurse a shove, and then that patient selling information to a tabloid for $15,000 dollars is the same as a patient threatening murder and raping a nurse? OK. God bless you.

      • Paul

        @Mark

And no, a patient’s rights under HIPAA do not become null if they commit assault. They may be charged with assault, in a court of law. The media is not a court of law. TMZ is not a court of law. A court of law is a court of law, and in America, the rule of law is to be respected in a court. A shove does not give staff a free license to compromise her medical privacy.

  • CiCi217

9,600 people have gone to the Betty Ford clinic. What they forget to mention is that the number consists of 500 people all with numerous return visits

    • Groper the Interloper

      All from Hollywood.

    • mj

      you mean 96,000.

  • JPX

And once again Lindsay is given the message that all of her problems are caused by others. Wouldn’t it be refreshing if there was a single person in her life that would tell her bluntly, “You cause all the difficulties in your life.” I suppose being a has-been in her early 20s is punishment enough.

    • Paul

Lindsay did not ask to have her right to privacy violated. It’s not her fault that some sleazebag medical professional tried selling confidential information about a patient for money. That’s what this article is about. This staffer was terminated because she violated her professional ethical obligations. She was terminated because she forgot the oath she took to become a medical professional in the first place.

      • teresa

@paul…you are right…but unfortunatley some” medical profesionals” are only in it for the check at the end of the week…as apperently this one was….LL has issues but she does have the right to not have her medical issues on the front page….best wishes to LL :)

  • john utah

    I can’t wait until lindsey dies….

    • Paul

I bet you’re a really fun person to have a drink with.

    • anne

Gee. john utah, get a grip—

    • david

Lindsey can’t wait until john utah dies.

  • Groper the Interloper

Maybe the Betty Ford clinician can go work for TSA.

  • KM

WHY IS THIS IDIOT NEWS – I HAVE BEEN ASKING THIS FOR MONTHS – WHO CARES WHAT LL DOES EXCEPT OTHER IDIOTS – MERRY CHRISTMAS

    • david

It seems slightly obsessive for you to be going around for months asking why lindsay lohan is news. You just can’t help yourself when you see her name in a head-line, can you? You’ve just got to click on it. And then while you’re reading the article, you say to yourself, “I’m not going to comment. I’m not going to comment. I’m not going to comment. Come on, KM. Be strong!” But you just can’t help it. You have no self control when it comes to The Lindsay Lohan. She’s got you in a dither, KM.

  • jack

96,000 first of all.. Cici217-read again. And for all the LL haters.. This is not about her. Betty Ford is suppose to be a safe haven. Tough sh– on the lady fired, Shut your mouth. She got fired around the holiday season, big deal, cry me a river. Next time she should remember her oath. LL.. the easiest target ever for all the skanks out there.

    • anne

We’re skanks? You sound like a really bitter person–and as far as BFC being a safe haven–they’re also supposed to impose some rules and discipline for the patients–not overlook them sneaking out to bars. And yes, it IS about LL and how she has once again caused problems for everyone but is always given a second (or fourth or 50th) chance. Put her somewhere secure for a long time and stop letting her hide behind the words “addiction” and “mental health issues.”

      • david

I’m pretty sure you’re wrong, anne. While I doubt you are a skank, and believe that you are probably a very nice lady, the article is not about LL causing problems or about her 2nd, 4th, or 50th chances. If you read the first paragraph, the article seems to be about a girl named Dawn Holland. To quote Jeff Labrecque, Dawn “has been fired for speaking publicly about the incident” with Lindsay Lohan. You must be thinking about other articles you’ve read about Lohan.

  • LeeInOceanside

Lindsay……..your screwin up. You are not Gods gift to the world. You better get your SHI* together.

    • FaithMore

BUT why is she permitted to get her shi* together as you put it? Why has no one called for her career to end? Why does she get to constantly get away with this behavior? One slip up okay, shi* does happen to us all. We may have a moment of madness happen no matter what it is but DAMN, this chick here has gotten away one too many times now. It’s time for the curtains to close on this one!

      • Angie

LL doesn’t have a career right now. No one will hire her for movies because she’s so unreliable. Insurance companies won’t underwrite movies if she’s given a role. I have no idea where she’s getting money – maybe someone’s paying for personal appearances.
