You can’t make an omelet …
Maybe not, but even stunt actors deserve to not get injured unnecessarily. It’s never going to be 100% safe–that’s why they’re using stunt performers–but there’s no excuse for someone getting hurt if these accidents keep happening because someone’s not doing their job.
Perhaps, a title change is in order?
SpiderMan: Call The Ambulance!
SpiderMan:Raise Your Insurance Premium!
Spiderman:Bring Out The Hook!
The Macbeth of musicals? I think perhaps it just might be…
Even if this show eventually opens, none of these stunts will be fun or cool– they’ll just be terrifying, because every audience member will be waiting for someone to fall and be critically injured.
Shhh! It’s bad luck to utter the name of that Scottish play. Perhaps someone actually did say it in the theatre, which is why the production is so marred by a series of unfortunate events.
I’m surprised that these accidents are occurring. You never hear of any Cirque du Soleil accidents. Are they checking the rigging for heaven’s sakes every night?
Cirque gives much more time to their shows to rehearse before opening. They do significantly fewer “preview” performances and have these issues figured out long before paid audience comes in. Also, Cirque does not use IATSE or AEA union members so they can train their staff to be first responders for when their artists are injured [which does happen] Unfortunately, Broadway actors have some sort of celebrity status and cirque performers do not so you hear less about them.
I’m surprised Actors Equity or the stagehands’ equivalent hasn’t stepped in yet. While accidents can happen, it sounds like these are things that weren’t worked out in rehearsals and Tech Week because there’s just too much of it happening.
They just need to close the show, or Actors Equity needs to step in and make them. So what if the show doesn’t make its budget? It’s better to lose some money than to kill innocent people!
CANCEL – its a liability and well it sounded like a bad idea since the start- sorry
Christopher- I hope you have a speedy recovery and get back on stage soon, to enjoy the work you enjoy so much. Compassion, and reality is all these negative posters lack, forgive them. Sincerely ~a friend of a friend~
