Ashraf Azad, the 28-year-old brother of 22-year-old Harry Potter actress Afshan Azad, has pleaded guilty of assaulting her last May, the BBC reports. Ashraf allegedly was upset that Afshan — known for playing Padma Patil in the Harry Potter movies — was dating a man who was not Muslim. Though Ashraf and father Abdul Azad were cleared of charges of attempted murder, Ashraf is facing jail time. His sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 21.

Honestly this is news worthy? Let alone someone like Afshan Azad who is a fringe “star” at best if you will, but to make a headline story about her brother? Please! If this was Angelina Jolie or Will Smith’s brother, sure, but not some person I have never heard of or will hear of in 2 years.
Nick, way to show your compassion.
So because she’s not a major actress you’re basically saying who gives a sh** about her being attacked. You’re not a star at all, so if you get attacked or killed I guess we should all say who gives a sh**. The lack of emotion from some people just really makes me sick. She’s first and foremost a human being and deserves sympathy that something horrible happened to her regardless or her box office numbers.
Well said, Pandora. Nick, you are pathetic, and I feel sorry for you.
I understand that Nick lacked tact, but shame on EW for once again using these yellow-press tactics to get hits. Let’s not pretend that EW didn’t know what they were doing when they posted a headline that reads “Brother of ‘Harry Potter’ actress pleads guilty to attacking her.” The whole world thinks of Emma Watson when they think of “Harry Potter actress”. (and yes, I know that she is not the only woman ever to appear on an HP film, but she is the only female that is universally linked to that franchise) Shame on you, EW>
You have now heard of her, so it is not possible that you will not have heard of her within the next two years…
…and just because YOU haven’t heard of someone, it doesn’t mean that other people haven’t. I doubt EW is going to adopt a policy of hey-!-We-must-limit-ourselves-to-stories-about-people-Nick-knows.
Such an obvious trolling comment and people still bite. Unbelievable. For those apparently new to the Internet, people like “Nick” post offensive comments like this not because they actually believe them, but because they obtain some sort of sick, perverted satisfaction out of anonymously angering strangers online. They then take delight at all the outraged responses they receive. The only effective way to deal with such trolls is to ignore them.
Wait, the HP films actually feature actors of color??? Things have certainly improved…
@Joe, what are you talking about? Since the first one, the HP movies and books have featured a diverse cast of characters. The Patil sisters, Lee Jordan, Dean Thomas, Cho Chang, Blaise Zabini, etc. Plus, though many of the characters are white, they still have diverse ethnic backgrounds–English or British, Scottish, etc. You get the point.
Poor girl. Hope she moves away and has a long and happy life.
I wonder why Code Pink never protest the way Muslims treat women? It silly to think a lady can get killed by her family or in some cases stoned to death by the goverment yet all the women rights group are all silent.
Nevermind Code Pink only cares if its an American missle that kills a woman if its the womans family or goverment its ok. At least Code Pink has its priorities straight.
