Image Credit: Everett CollectionDirector Blake Edwards, who achieved massive success for helming the Pink Panther series starring Peter Sellers, has passed away, his rep confirms. The writer-director, who also brought Victor/Victoria, Breakfast at Tiffany‘s and 10 to the big screen, was 88 years old. Edwards, however, was most revered for his slapstick work, with 1963′s The Pink Panther and its sequels — 1975′s The Return of the Pink Panther, 1976′s The Pink Panther Strikes Again, 1978′s Revenge of the Pink Panther, 1982′s Trail of the Pink Panther, 1983′s Curse of the Pink Panther, and 1993′s Son of the Pink Panther — earning him a place amongst comedy’s greatest directors. He is survived by his wife, Victor/Victoria star Julie Andrews, and children.

no mention about his surviving wife. isn’t it julie andrews?
I’m sure they’ll expand the article now that his passing has been confirmed.
You should go on NYTimes.com. They have a better obituary. Okay, I should not say “better obituary” that sounds morbid. They have a more written detail about his early career & life.
read the very last line of the article. It is Julie Andrews.
That last line was added after my post, because it definitely was not there before
He’s also “Mr. Julie Andrews”
While he was indeed married to Julie Andrews, and directed her best comedy performance in 10, S.O.B., and particularly Victor/Victoria, it’s nice to see he’s credited first for his own work rather than whom he was married too. The man deserved it.
Exactly what I was thinking. So sad for Julie.
Was he still married to Julie Andrews?
Yes. It says on the net that she was by his side when he died.
Did he direct “10″?
Yes he did direct “10″ which is one of my personal favorite movies.
Wow. That’s a major loss. Love the Peter Sellars “Pink Panther” films. Some of the most geniusly comedic performances I’ve ever seen.
Agree 100%
I hate to say this, but I thought he was already dead. Anyway, he will be missed.
If you want to get read, this is how you shulod write.
Blake Edwards was responsible for one of the greatest movie tag lines ever for a then 13 year old kid…from 1989′s Skin Deep.
“He’s going deep….Skin Deep”.
Love that movie!! Glow in the dark condom fight…classic!
Please keep thriowng these posts up they help tons.
RIP to the director of the greatest pie fight in history!!!!
Yes – in The Great Race! I love that movie. RIP Mr. Edwards, and condolences to Ms. Andrews.
Thank you for remembering that scene and that movie. Most of the remembrances so far have neglected to remember that classic comedy.
Growing up I was a huge fan of old movies and the Great Race was hysterical. Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood & Jack Lemmon.
Blake will get 21 gun salute from the USS Sea Tiger, surely. Just make sure no one sinks a truck.
Excellent Operation Petticoat reference. I love that movie.
This news came as quite a shock to me. He was one of my favorite directors. I hope Julie Andrews will be okay, and the kids.
RIP to the director of some of my all time favorite films. My thoughts go out to Julie Andrews and their children.
Such sad news. My sympathies to Julie and their children. He was such an amazing director (and writer) and even though it was made almost 10 years before I was born Operation Petticoat is that movie that I will always watch whenever I see its on. RIP and thanks for making us all laugh for so many years.
So many great films, Breakfast at Tiffany’s being the most memorable, for me. I really feel for his family, I think he and JA had one of the great, enduring show-biz marriages.
Blake is a ’10′ in my book!
