Who cares, they’re kids. This is what kids do. I never believed there was much depth to their relationship anyway.
She probably got tired of pretending to be his girlfriend and and wanted to get a real boyfriend for a birthday present. Because as I have been saying for a while now he is GAY!! This has been a sham relationship while his career takes off.
