Since his departure to satellite, I have not missed him in the least. I listen to my local guys instead…Kirk & Mike in DC.
Get over yourself Howard Stern. In the grand scheme of life you’re nothing but a big mouth.
Howard Stern was a huge asset for Sirius in gaining suscribers and credibility. That being said, what has he done for them lately? When he signed that deal, he was pertinent in the cultural landscape. People in the world of pop culture and entertainment cared about what he said. That is no longer the case. You don’t read or hear about what Howard did, or said, because he is significantly less important in the cultural landacape. If Sirius wants to pay him for past efforts, that’s their choice (ala Derek Jeter and the Yankees). But in terms of current value, Howard is no longer a 100 million dollar man.
yes he was getting 500 million but he actually uses tht money for his employees and Howard TV. It’s not like he’s just wants all that money for him self.
I do agree with the way the Market is he might have to rethink the “pay cut”. However those negotions should have been in close doors.
Howard’s a d1ck and has only gotten worse since he and the wife divorced and he got with Beth (should have stayed with your REAL wife like you always said you would never dump her and get a Hollywood wife but you did). He’s still doing the same shtick as when I was in HS in the late 80′s. Do people really still find him funny?
I am a new XM subscriber and I could care less about Stern. As far as bringing new subscribers, I think the deals with the car manufactuers to have the radios installed and trial subs brought more people in over the last few years than Stern. I want commercial free music and out of area sports. Recycled shock radio schtick is not a preset. Too many good radio personalities are off air or doing podcasts for this imitator to be demanding money like this. And the SXM CEO has every right to publically comment as a service to his stockholders.
I have to respectfully disagree with that last comment. It’s fine to disclose the terms of a deal to stockholders once everyone has signed off, but to speculate openly about a contract while in negotiations is dirty pool. It comes off like an orchestrated move to push the public against Howard so that he will settle for less money.
There’s a lot of misinformation stemming from the headline here. Stern wasn’t upset about the possibility of a pay cut; he was upset because Frear made it public. He’s been negotiating with Sirius quietly. Naturally the discussion of a smaller contract came up – he just didn’t air it publicly until Frear opened his mouth. I’m paraphrasing here, but he suggested that he would take less money as long as it was kept quiet and done respectfully.
Also, please remember that Stern did not pocket half a billion dollars. His production costs and staff salaries come out of that money too.
Finally, Stern may not have the dominance he did in the 90′s, but he’s still highly relevant: 1) EW is publishing articles about him and 2) Haters are still coming out of the woodwork to comment every time Stern says something controversial.
Plus, his interview with David Arquette was everywhere!
This is such lazy journalism. I hear the entire Stern conversation, which lasted for 15 minutes. These statements were taken grossly out of context.
I suspect Howard WOULD have taken a pay cut just to stay where he is and keep the show going. He’s a billioniare. But for David Frear to publicly say that Howard DESRVES a pay cut is just wrong.
Howard has only helped Sirius/XM.
I thought this whole time that there really was a deal and that Stern was just playing up the whole cliffhanger thing, but now it seems there truly is no deal.
I’m amazed people still listen to him. I subscribe to Sirius, but not for him, for the commercial free music. I would never pay to just listen to some guy talk show.
You wouldn’t be surprised if you actually listened to him. The show is hilarious and he’s one of the best interviewers out there today. There’s no danger that Stern won’t resign, he’s too valuable an asset.
The econmoy is in the crapper and poor Howie doesn’t want to take a pay cut. F U HOWIE, u sniveling puke!
I’ve been a Sirius subscriber even before Howard came along. I got hooked on his show for a long time. Lately, I’m getting to where I have trouble listening. His ego is through the roof and everyone kisses his behind on the show. Can you say Robin, she is a horrible “sidekick”. The other guys add to the show like Ronnie, Gary, Sal, Richard, J.D. etc… I find myself listening more to other stations lately. Howard…you are a great interviewer, but you’re not all that in other ways. I will never quit SIrius. Terestrial radio sucks!
A man with size and HookupBBW was perfect
Haha the joke’s on all u non-stern fans. Howard’s coming back to Sirius!
Howard is a low life. the only reason i read this is why a jackass can make that kind of money.
