Tiger Woods writes about scandal in 'Newsweek': 'I'm not the same man I was a year ago. And that's a good thing.'

Categories: Tiger Woods

Between joining Twitter and writing a mea culpa in Newsweek, Tiger Woods has found himself once again front-and-center in the media. (It feels like November 2009 all over again … with better PR!) The golfer, who has spoke measuredly about his sex scandal in press conferences — for the uninitiated, he admitted to having affairs outside his marriage to Elin Nordegren, who he has since divorced — opted to write about his troubles in a Newsweek article titled “How I’ve Redefined Victory.” Writes Woods in the piece: “Last November, everything I thought I knew about myself changed abruptly, and what others perceived about me shifted, too. I had been conducting my personal life in an artificial way — as if detached from the values my upbringing had taught, and I should have embraced. The physical pain from that car accident has long healed. But the pain in my soul is complex and unsettling; it has been far more difficult to ease — and to understand. But this much is obvious now: My life was out of balance, and my priorities were out of order … Golf is a self-centered game, in ways good and bad. So much depends on one’s own abilities. But for me, that self-reliance made me think I could tackle the world by myself. It made me think that if I was successful in gold, then I was invincible. Now I know that, no matter how tough or strong we are, we all need to rely on others.” Click here to read the rest of the text.

Felony charges filed against 'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood in domestic violence investigation

Categories: Television

Three criminal charges have been filed against Amber Portwood, one of the four stars of MTV’s Teen Mom docu-series, after a seven-week investigation into alleged domestic violence, according to police in her hometown of Anderson, Indiana. The 20-year-old is accused of hitting Gary Shirley, 24 — the father of her 1-year-old daughter, Leah. Police launched the investigation after a September episode showed Portwood shoving him against a wall, slapping him, and choking him. Detectives uncovered two other videotaped incidents as well: On June 14, Portwood was filmed slapping, punching, and kicking Shirley; on July 18, she was shown slapping and punching him. Two of the charges are classified as felonies because of Leah’s presence; the third is a misdemeanor. Portwood could face up to three years in jail and fines up to $10,000 if convicted.

The play — which premiered Off Broadway in 2004 and has been produced in Boston, Los Angeles, and London — is the Broadway directorial debut for LaBute. Fat Pig is a comedy that tells the story of Tom (Hamilton), an eligible bachelor who falls for a lovely, but plus-sized, girl named Helen. Tom’s friend Carter (Cook) forces him to question his values and the importance of good looks. “I’m extremely eager to get into rehearsal with Dane and Josh,” LaBute said. “The ability to cater to your actors is a luxury that comes with being both writer and director. I’m planning on writing new material for this production to enhance the already considerable gifts that these men bring to the characters. I’m very much looking forward to this opportunity to see Fat Pig through fresh eyes.”

Sonja Morgan, star of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City, filed for bankruptcy yesterday, People reports. “The decision to seek bankruptcy relief was not an easy one,” Morgan wrote in court papers. “But unfortunately, I am at a crossroads in my life.” According to her Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition, Morgan’s debt is listed at $19.8 million. She has attributed her financial struggles to a “bitter” divorce from husband John Adams Morgan — a descendant of J.P. Morgan and John Adams — as well as a failed film venture with Hannibal Pictures. Morgan, who joined the Real Housewives of New York City cast during its most recent third season, is optimistic about her future. “My current monthly income including support is about $26,000 per month,” she told People. “And I expect this income to improve as new opportunities materialize.”
