The team that made The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is circling a comedy titled Cogan’s Trade. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt and director Andrew Dominik are interested in reuniting for a story about a tough-guy called in to investigate a daring heist that occurs during a mob-run poker game. Sam Rockwell and Casey Affleck, who was nominated for an Oscar for Assassination of Jesse James, might also be involved.

Spider-Man musical faces safety inspection
The upcoming Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark musical has at least one more hurdle to clear before heading into previews November 14: a New York State Department of Labor safety inspection. According to the New York Times, “Under state law, shows like Spider-Man are not legally allowed to hold public performances until state inspectors review and approve special effects such as flying.” The $60 million production is under an additional investigation after one of its actors broke both his wrists after a slingshot-like stunt went awry during rehearsals.
Eli Roth set to produce 'Psycho Killer'
Eli Roth and Eric Newman are set to produce Psycho Killer, an “elevated, uncompromised, R-rated thriller,” Roth told Variety. The film follows a masked murderer who eventually kills a highway patrolman; “the only witness, the patrolman’s young wife — also an officer — sets out to hunt the killer down.” Andrew Kevin Walker, who wrote Seven, wrote the screenplay, and producer Gavin Polone is set to make his directorial debut. Roth and Newman previously collaborated on The Last Exorcism.
Al Pacino sets financial thriller 'Arbitage' as next film
Al Pacino will star opposite Susan Sarandon and Eva Green in the financial thriller Arbitage, according to Variety. Writer and director Nicholas Jarecki plans to start shooting next spring in New York. The script follows a hedge fund magnate who’s trying to sell his company to a major bank before his fraudulent practices are uncovered.
Meryl Streep to guest star on Lisa Kudrow's web series
Meryl Streep is set to have an upcoming guest spot on Lisa Kudrow’s online series, Web Therapy, the actress’ rep confirms. The Oscar winner has supposedly already shot three episodes for the former Friends star’s comedy show, previous webisodes of which have been picked up by Showtime to air on the network.
Randy, Evi Quaid skip court hearing
The Associated Press reports Randy and Evi Quaid missed a mandatory arraignment in California Tuesday. The pair, who seeking asylum in Canada — where they were arrested for squatting in one of their former properties — skipped the court date, because the actor was required to stay in the country until a Nov. 8 immigration hearing, according to the Quaids’ lawyer. The Superior Court judge assigned to the hearing did not issue a bench warrant for the actor, but issued one for Evi, who might face extradition.

Aretha Franklin released from hospital
Soul legend Aretha Franklin was released from a Michigan hospital this Saturday after a brief sojourn at the recommendation of her doctors. The singer was forced to cancel a show in Charlottesville, Va. and is currently resting at home. “I would like to thank my friends, fans, and supporters for all the beautiful flowers and their many well wishes,” Franklin said in a statement.
Political ad features fake Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman’s iconic narration, usually employed for the good of mankind, has recently been misused for political purposes, according to CNN. A voice similar to Freeman’s was featured in an television commercial in support of B.J. Lawson, a Republican candidate in a North Carolina congressional race. When asked, Lawson confirmed via Facebook that the voice belonged to the actor. Freeman, however, quickly issued a statement denying any participation, saying, “These people are lying. I have never recorded any campaign ads for B.J. Lawson, and I do not support his candidacy.” Lawson has since apologized to Freeman and his opponent, claiming that he was duped by MEI Political, the production company responsible for 30-second spot. MEI denies Lawson’s accusation.
Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric coming to Broadway
Kiefer Sutherland will star alongside Jason Patric, Brian Cox, Chris Noth, and Jim Gaffigan in a revival of Jason Miller’s Tony-winning 1972 play, That Championship Season. According to a release, Gregory Mosher (A View From the Bridge) will direct the story of four high school buddies who reunite with their basketball coach 20 years after they won a state title. Rehearsals start after the new year, and a strictly-limited engagement will begin in March.
