Matt Hughes' death unrelated to 'Storm Chasers'

Last night’s episode of Storm Chasers, titled “Dedication,” revealed that meteorologist Matt Hughes had passed away, but his death was unrelated to his work with the Discovery Channel show. The 30-year-old husband and father of two suffered a fatal injury in his home and died on May 26, according to CBS News, and a coworker of Hughes from KAKE-10 News in Wichita blogged that his friend had been suffering from depression and had previously attempted to commit suicide.

Emma Bunton pregnant with No. 2

Former Spice Girl Emma Bunton is pregnant, according to her Twitter feed. The singer and Jade Jones already have one child, 3-year-old Beau Lee. “So our family grows, we are SO excited to announce we’re having our 2nd baby and beau’s wish for a brother or sister has come true!” Bunton wrote on her Twitter.

Jane Lynch will host Fox holiday special

Jane Lynch is set to host Fox’s upcoming holiday special, TV’s Funniest Holiday Moments: A Paley Center for Media Special, according to TV Guide. The two-hour show will air Friday, Nov. 26, and will count down 40 of television’s classic (and newly classic) holiday scenes from comedies, dramas, and sketch and variety shows.

Myspace has 'quarters' to turn its numbers around

Myspace has “quarters, not … years” to turn its traffic trajectory around, News Corp.’s COO Chase Carey told investors, according to USA Today. While News Corp. didn’t release specific numbers, “the category in News Corp.’s financial report that’s dominated by Myspace lost $156 million in the quarter that ended in September vs. a loss of $126 million in the same period last year, on revenues of $298 million, down 25.5 percent.”

The onetime behemoth of social networking recently launched a redesign, attempting to reposition itself as a “social entertainment” site, geared more strictly to a younger audience. It still reaches a worldwide audience of 95 million users a month, and a U.S. audience of 43 million visitors per month.

Justin Long injured in minor car accident

People reports Justin Long was injured in a minor car accident in Los Angeles. The actor, who suffered a mild concussion, had to cancel an appearance at the Savannah Film Festival, where he was scheduled to promote The Conspirator. “He’s completely fine now,” a source tells People.

Michael Jackson-themed Cirque du Soleil show set to debut in Montreal

Cirque du Soleil will unveil its new Michael Jackson-themed show in Montreal in October 2011, according to Reuters. The Canadian acrobatic company describes the show as a “riveting fusion of visuals, dance, music and fantasy.” Tickets for the show — which features 60 performers — are now available for pre-sale for MichaelJackson.com subscribers.

'Fiddler on the Roof' composer dies

Jerry Bock, who composed the music for Fiddler on the Roof and several other Broadway shows, has died at age 81, according to the Associated Press. Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick won Tonys for Fiddler in 1965, as well as a Pulitzer Prize in 1960 for the music and lyrics to Fiorello!.

MGM files for bankruptcy protection

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios filed for bankruptcy protection this morning in New York City. They have been in serious debt since 2005, Reuters reports. The company expects a federal bankruptcy judge to approve the filing in approximately 30 days. The move comes after Spyglass Entertainment’s heads took hold of MGM last week.

'Sex and the City' writer Michael Patrick King returns to TV with hairdresser comedy at NBC

Beleaguered network NBC has snagged a Shampoo-like, hour-long comedy spec script from Sex and the City showrunner Michael Patrick King, Deadline reports.  It follows a straight hairdresser in his 50s struggling to stay relevant in Los Angeles. King has a history with NBC (he served as consulting producer on Will & Grace) and with awesome hairdresser characters (on HBO’s The Comeback).
