Members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees are striking against The Biggest Loser, an action that has shut down production on the eleventh season of the NBC reality series, the union confirmed today. In a statement, IATSE president Matthew Loeb said: “This is a top-rated prime-time television show, and the crew remains unified. The strike is the result of a unanimous decision by members of the production crew that they get a contract similar to others covering these types of productions, and we are resolute in getting it for them.” NBC referred all calls to Reveille Productions, one of the producers of Biggest Loser; a Reveille spokesperson had no comment. The network — which is currently airing the show’s tenth season — will debut season 11 in January.

Tina Fey became the youngest recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor last night at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The 40-year-old star of 30 Rock was feted by a cavalcade of stars, including Steve Martin, Lorne Michaels, Jon Hamm, Steve Carell, and Betty White. Fey was primarily recognized for her Saturday Night Live parody of Sarah Palin. “I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn’t thank Sarah Palin for helping me get here tonight,” said Fey. “My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that have ever happened to me.”

HBO not picking up 'Miraculous Year'
HBO has confirmed with EW that the network will not be picking up The Miraculous Year, which delves into a well-connected New York family. The pilot — directed by Hurt Locker helmer Kathryn Bigelow — starred Frank Langella as the family’s patriarch, Norbert Leo Butz as his Broadway composer son, and Hope Davis as his lawyer daughter. Susan Sarandon and Lee Pace also guest starred in the pilot. According to Deadline, HBO chose to not pick up the pilot because it’s concept “was probably too narrow.”

Kanye West apologizes for George W. Bush rant
Kanye West told the Today show that he regrets his infamous “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” comment, something the former president has cited, during his recent book tour, as a low point in his tenure. In a taped interview shown live to Bush, West said, “I would say of George Bush, in my moment of frustration, I didn’t have the grounds to call him a racist. But I believe that in a situation of high emotion like that, we as human beings don’t always choose the right words.” Bush responded, “I appreciate that. It wasn’t just Kanye West who was talking like that during Katrina, I cited him as an example, I cited others as an example as well. You know, I appreciate that.”
But West didn’t at all appreciate how the whole exchange came to pass. Yesterday, after the taping, West Tweeted, “let me tell you how they did me at the Today show.” He went on to say, “I went up there to express how I was empathetic to Bush because I labeled him a racist and years later I got labeled as a racist. … I don’t mess with Matt Lauer or the Today Show … and that’s a very nice way for me to put it! … HE TRIED TO FORCE MY ANSWERS. IT WAS VERY BRUTAL AND I CAME THERE WITH ONLY POSITIVE INTENT.”
'The Biggest Loser' shuts down production due to crew walkout
NBC’s The Biggest Loser has been forced to stop production because of a crew walkout that’s part of an ongoing effort to unionize, Deadline reports. The International Association of Theater and Stage Employees, the film and TV crew union, showed up on the set Monday and led the workers in the demonstration, forcing filming to stop. Production remains shut down while the union and production company Reveille negotiate behind the scenes.

Mel Gibson heading to court for custody hearing

'The Zone' shut down
Roland Emmerich’s low-budget sci-fi movie The Zone has been shut down for unspecified reasons. The $5 million alien invasion movie was going to revolve around found-footage — similar to Cloverfield — and be cast with relative unknowns. It was to start shooting next week and cast members were in the midst of rehearsals. The Hollywood Reporter speculates that one of the causes might be a recent Weinstein Co. screenplay, the similarly-themed found-footage Apollo 18, which is set to be released in March, right before The Zone was due to debut.
