Black Eyed Peas set to play Super Bowl halftime show

The Black Eyed Peas will be playing the Super Bowl halftime show in February. “They could have picked anybody…but it says something that they picked us,” will.i.am told Rolling Stone. Super Bowl XLV will be held in Dallas, Texas on Feb. 6, 2011.

If you don’t get a chance to watch them perform at the Super Bowl, you’ll get to see them perform on 50 shows between now and then. And the yard sale right down the street from you.

    • Nate

I just saw them play at Burger King this afternoon, not a bad show, my Double Stacker combo was really good today too!

      • Seddie Forever!!!!!!!!!

I would have preferred The Killers or Keith Urban

    • natalie whitney

man, it would be so cool if will.i.am finally came out of the closet at the superbowl.

      • Godfrey Moore

what it make your life anymore full filling if he did you twitt?

    • tjhooker

I wonder if Ashley Simpson was unavailable??

  • jim

Exactly. Talk about a group that’s overexposed. But, at least, the NFL got someone who’s had a hit this century.

    • Jeremy DC

That doesn’t say much considering ninety percent of music this century sucks. This is coming from someone in their 20s.

      • Sen

just because you (like me) are a product of the 80′s, doesn’t mean you have to only like music from around that time. Believe it or not, the past 10 years have given us great hits. Get ur head out of ur ass.

      • Jeremy DC

        @Sen
I didn’t say I only liked music from that era. I actually think if the Super Bowl did a show with a combination of Jay-Z and Beyonce then that would be good. Unlike Black Eyed Peas, I can at least understand why people like them. Now if you think Peas have given us great hits then you’re even dumber than your post sounds. You probably want to throw Bieber and Kesha in for next years’s show. Once again I didn’t say all the music has been bad so you need to get your head out of your ass and listen.

You guys have to remember that the Super Bowl is the most watched show (with close to 100 million people watching). The NFL has a sticky situation with that many people watching. They want the acts to be entertaining and appealing but without offending. Your suggestion of Jay-Z probably wouldn’t happen unless he agreed to clean up his song language, however if he did that, then people would accuse him of being a sell-out.

  • Justin

Great! I love the Black Eyed Peas.

    • Nathan

      FAIL

    • Godfrey Moore

Awesome Justin, they will give you a show the way I think half time shows should be, full of energy, and something to look at. Fergie

  • DTour

Oh my god…I’m sorry they do have monster hits true, but like theres nothing that screams iconic about them, you know? If they wanted someone modern they shouldve done an artist with real generation-defining qualities. Beyonce, Eminem, etc.

    • Barry

Eminen? Beyonce? LMAO. They both sux.

      • Ella

        Nice grammar there, Barry.

    • Preston

Eminem would have been great–he’s been having hits and awards left and right! And I’m sure he would have to clean up the lyrics for TV, but still keep it hip-hop hardcore! Beyonce would have also been fabulous, but maybe she turned them down.

  • Dwayne

I am happy they chose the Black Eyed Peas. I will actually watch the halftime show this year! It is so funny cause just yesterday when I was watching the Patriots game and Kid Rock was performing during halftime, I said I wonder who will perform at the Super Bowl for the halftime show…I hope it isn’t someone wack like last year. Glad to hear it isn’t. Overexposed or not…at least they will perform songs I have heard or actually care about

    • Barry

The Who are in the Hall of Fame. Black Peas will NEVER make it there.

      • Victoria

        Exactly! Great post Barry!

      • Taco Enchilada

ABBA and MADONNA were both hugely successful artists that critics hated during their heyday. Fo rthe longest time they were called everything from pop fluff to soulless to forgettable hacks that would never stand the test of time. Guess what? History proved critics wrong, bith Madonna and ABBA have become legendary, iconic, enduring artists with tons of hits, grammies, critical respect and they are both in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. So, unless you actually have a crytal ball, we don’t know if BEP’s “crappy” music will actually be considered great pop in the future…

      • Rich

Nope Taco, I’m pretty much 100% positive that BEP will ALWAYS be considered crappy pop fluff for all eternity. And you don’t need a “cryal ball” to determine that… Just a pair of ears and the musical taste of someone out of puberty.

BEP will probably make the Hall Of Fame a few years after the inclusions of Ace Of Base, Vanilla Ice, and the Baha Men.

    • Godfrey Moore

Me too Dwayne a great show it will be I’m sure, even if the game sucks at least the Peas will make up for it. You know sometimes the game could be a bit disappointing base on plays and performances.

      • manuel

Right, but since the past is a moot point in this scenario, the only ptdeicror of the future is runs given up (not when they happen to be given up). Like if you think of it that way, a player who scores 100 runs but only 5 game winning runs, is worse then a player who scores 50 but 10 game winning runs.

      • Sakura

I’m a New Englander who can’t stand either the ginats or patriots because I live among the rabid fans of those teams. I’m not going to bother aside from which I have a midnight flight to take to the west coast so I’ll be packing and at the airport during the Superbowl anyways.

  • JAM

Remember when the Super Bowl was about football? Man those were the days, before networks exploited it as a money making machine. Before it became an elitist event for the rich and famous. My vote is no half time show, go to commercial, come back and finish the game.

    • Jenny

I love how you are taking a self righteous stand against the money making machine and you say they should just go to commercial and back to the game. The commercials is where the real money is. The super bowl ads cost over $2 million for only 30 seconds. They have made the american consumer celebrate their marketing efforts as they try to sell us more crap and you are taking a stand against musical performance. Don’t fall off your soapbox.

      • Godfrey Moore

You are so right Miss Jenny Jam is confused a little bit in the head. Half time show has it time slot, the commercials do as well, and so does the game the main event, so where is it that it’s not about football anymore, some people just don’t know what to dam say. lol!

      • Anil

first I also thought this in that video, but sieneg some pictures of her on google I changed my opinion. the face is full of? botox and even so it looks old. in the video it’s just because of the makeup and her hair covering the face and its forms.

    • Preston

The commercials and halftime shows are good additions, but I prefer to watch the Super Bowl for the FOOTBALL alone! Let me say that they know most of the audience that watches it, even men who will drink beer, eat pizza and snacks and do male themes that the ads expose. They really calculate this to the 9 yards every year!

    • bootsycolumbia

Jam, you must be older than me, and I’m pretty old to be writing on this site. The NFL has ALWAYS been about merchandising and ad revenue as much as it is about football, and I’ve been watching the Super Bowl for over 30 years.

  • Mike

Here’s hoping we get a Fergie “wardrobe malfunction!”

    • dj

      heres hopin youre right!

      • Jeff C.

Saw them reluctantly at a music festival five years ago and Fergie was drunk off her ass and pissed her pants…so who knows.

  • LOL

Another reason to skip halftime and take an extended bathroom break.

    • Preston

I remembered when past Super Bowl halftimes made people take bathroom breaks. But the networks were so worried that they’d lose 10 to 20 million viewers with that break. So they wanted to keep them in their seats with bigger stars with the halftime show. Even though I’m excited about Black Eyed Peas doing it for 2011, nobody put on a better halftime show than what Michael Jackson did in 1993! He really torn it up on stage with the fireworks and the high energy dancing and performance!

  • sara

    Again???

  • LOL

Music for people who hate music.

  • Momar

the NFL really knows their target audience. Another snoozer. Just like every year, half time is a pee break and putting snacks in the oven.

  • amy

I hate the Black Eyed Peas.

  • krugerand

they’re loading the drum machines into the semis now.

  • BJohnson

Okay fine, Boom Boom Pow great catchy track. Enough to have them do the halftime show? No way Come on, they are definately not gonna be like Bruce Springsteen or Prince when they rocked the halftime show.

    • Preston

I love Bruce Springsteen and Prince’s performances those years, but it’s time for them to get current and Black Eyed Peas was a good choice. The dance pop is so popular now on the charts and they match quite well with that music trend.

  • Ry Jay

haha The CFL (Canadian Football League) had them at our Grey Cup (‘Canadian Superbowl’) November 2005.

    • Rich

      America: Now more than ever, Canada’s B I T C H.

    • bootsycolumbia

Yeah, and who did we have this year, Bachman and Turner. Doing hits from 30something years ago. THAT was a bathroom break half time show. I’m not a BEP fan by a long shot, but at least they’re current. I personally would have preferred Muse, Lady Gaga, Eminem, JayZ or Kanye West, bless his crazy heart.

      • Katharina

Francisco is avrgeae in LF but way below avrgeae in RF with that rag arm of his. Mayberry and Brown both throw much, much better. Victorino’s arm is a shell of what it used to be but his reputation still helps him. As long as Raul gets to all teh easy stuff and catches it, there won’t be any change made. Next year there will be someone not in the organization currently playing LF.
