I don’t mind Katy Perry, but I really preferred this version of the song, and it really fit the scene.

i usually just wait until the cds come out, but this song was too good to wait for

  • Stella

Little known fact – they were recorded by a Tufts acapella group!

    • melissa

Yeah! That made me love the song even more, since I love the Bubs!

    • BLAZERS

Love the Beezelbubs! I watched them on the Sing-Off and the Teenage Dream performance definitely reminded me of them, b/c it was a capella, all boys, preppy, etc. No wonder, they were doing the background vocals!

    • Andre

Love The Bubs. Did they get credit in the episode credits? It will be interesting if Vocal Adrenaline competes as against the Warblers because the Warblers (Bubs) are clearly better singer…no AutoTune!

      • J Lo

I thought the Auto Tune was really obvious in the song, especially when he sang the “young forever” part, which is a shame since Darren Criss is a legitimately good singer.

      • Shiny

It’s not autotune, it’s the Bubs doing the acapella thing; you’re ears are so used to crapola that you can’t recognize real voices blended in harmony and not a synthesizer.

    • Courtney

Thank you, I was wondering if it was them!!

  • Rolo Tomasi

Really EW? How many Glee related articles do you need in a day?

    • Phil

EW writes Glee articles because people read them. You read this, Rolo, so you show the interest is there.

    • Tarc

Don’t bother with Rolo, Phil. He’s an idiot in every thread on EW.

  • Eric P

I dont like the glee version it bugs me. Just sounds super bland.

    • shdrew

Me either. Glad to know I’m not the only one who didn’t like this song either. I thought it was just plain awful.

  • chris c

So happy for them,I love it.

  • Lance

I actually prefer this version to Katy Perry’s. She can’t auto-tune her way out of bad vocals.

  • Brad

Considering the original Katy Perry version is by far the worst song of the year I was surprised that I enjoyed the Glee version. It’s amazing how much real talent can make a difference.

    • Brad

I take that back. California Girls was the song I was thinking about. But Teenage Dream is still pretty darn bad.

      • Keith

And I say that as someone who doesn’t care for Katy very much at all.

      • Zakry

        You don’t say.

    • Keith

It is a fantastic pop song. I loved the song before Glee and like it more now. I HATE California Girls. But TD is pop gold.

  • Nikki

Darren Criss is awesome! I loved this version and it made me love him even more. He’s Harry FREAKIN’ Potter!

    • Gator

And this version was TOTALLY AWESOME!!

    • Chrissy

Darren was great!! Harry FREAKIN’ Potter is totally awesome with red vines!

  • Keith

Not surprised. There are moments, rare, when this show achieves magic. This was one of them.

    • chris c

      Well said!

  • sam

The performance was the best Glee scene this season–maybe ever. The song is fantastic and Darren Criss is an instant star.

    • DiMi

This has lessons for Ryan Murphy and the producers:

      1. People LIKE hearing the harmonizing, energy, and full-bodied sound of an entire CHOIR instead of the same leads (Rachel & Finn) singing lead while everybody else basically sings backup. Darren Criss didn’t dominate the song like Lea Michelle usually does.

      2. Ease up on the auto-tune.

      3. Choose more songs that capture the spirit of what it means to be young. The glee kids are starting to sound too old because of the song choices.

      • CE

Yes! Totally agree about #3 especially. If it’s a song I liked when I was young, then it’s WAY WAY WAY too old for those guys. :)

      • Zakry

Silliest critique ever. Music is timeless; a good song is good no matter year it is or the age of the person singing it.

  • Laura W

This is so funny!! Its got none of the original cast singing it!! That’s so weird!!

    • Bea

I was thinking that, maybe they will keep Darren longer

  • Alia

Note to Ryan Murphy: See, people DO want to hear/buy songs that feature more talent than auto-tune!

    • Alia

(Not that the regular cast isn’t talented. They ARE. But the show’s tendency to overproduce the musical numbers really keeps them from shining.)

  • fsj

I never liked this song until I heard it on Glee.

    • Michael

Me neither. Darren Criss sings it WAY better than Katy Perry does!!!

  • TJ. Church

Loved the song, & Bubs on Sing-Off. But hate Apple & ITunes, so guess I do w/o it for a bit.
