EW has confirmed a Variety report about how the Disney Channel and producers of Sonny with a Chance have decided to temporarily rework the ‘tween series while star Demi Lovato seeks help for personal issues. The producers will focus on the show-within-a-show, the comedy/sketch/music-variety “So Random!” It will feature guest stars, comedy sketches, musical performances and digital shorts.
The fix will allow the show to resume shooting in January even if Lovato, 18, isn’t available. “This allows her the time she needs to get well, without distraction or pressure,” a Disney Channel spokeswoman said. “Again, we extend our ongoing support to Demi and her family as she works to overcome personal issues.”
The Disney star recently interrupted her music tour to enter a treatment center.

I feel for her, too. It’s hard being under the spotlight like that all of the time. Even if you are a normal, good kid, the pressure is going to get to you at some point. From reading how Disney is able to quickly adjust the show, and keep it going into the new season without her makes me a little iffy. It just doesn’t bode well for some reason. Are they trying to write her out and then make this the new format, depending on how this unfortunate situation works out? The show is called ‘Sonny With a Chance’, for her character’s name. But, they could just change it to ‘Sunny with a Chance’, and just be done with her. I really hope that’s not the case, for her sake. Doesn’t seem like she can take any more pressure.

I agree. I think it would be nice if she could step away from the spotlight for a little bit. It seems like the pressures of show business took their toll on her and it’d be better for her and her family to realize she needs time to life out of the spotlight before she becomes another Lindsay Lohan. I doubt that will happen though… The appeal of fame and money are pretty strong.

Best of luck to Demi. That being said, the “So Random” sketches are the worst part of the show. Couldn’t they focus more on the supporting characters while Demi is away? It worked for A Different World after Lisa Bonet got the boot. Then again, SWAC is not a very good series so they might not have their own Jasmine Guy waiting in the wings. Yes, I am that old. I only (grudgingly) watch this when my niece comes over.
Ugh. I agree, the sketches are the worst. They should rename the show “Tawni Town” and focus on Tawni’s journey from vapid teen star to global humanitarian ambassador a la Audrey Hepburn or Angelina Jolie.
I’d rather see a few episodes of Mackenzie Falls.
