Tina Fey accepts Mark Twain Prize

Filed under: News, TV and tagged: , ,

Tina Fey became the youngest recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor last night at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The 40-year-old star of 30 Rock was feted by a cavalcade of stars, including Steve Martin, Lorne Michaels, Jon Hamm, Steve Carell, and Betty White. Fey was primarily recognized for her Saturday Night Live parody of Sarah Palin. “I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn’t thank Sarah Palin for helping me get here tonight,” said Fey. “My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that have ever happened to me.”

I’m sorry but she has no real body of work to get this prize. Either the world of comedy is really slow or she’s got a great publicist. I suspect she’s got some pull on this site too, since EW seems to post every minutia of items about her. She’s an okay performer and comedian, her Palin impression was somewhat funny once but she has not set the world on fire. 30 Rock was promising it’s first season but now…meh. Too much hype for too little.

No real body of work??? That’s ridiculous. She was the first female head writer of SNL, one of the best “Weekend Update” performers (with Jimmy Fallon), has written and produced several movies (“Mean Girls,” “Baby Momma,”) and writes, produces, and stars in “30 Rock.” But I’m sure she got the prize because of her awesome publicist.

Right on. Obviously Bob Loblaw does not know what he is talking abut. If he doesn’t like Tina’s humor is one thing but Tina is a very talented comedian with years of experience as a writer and performer in SNL.

Audrey you must be around 20 to think she was one of the best weekend update host that just crazy talk!!!

      Yeah, it does seem premature…

Bob Loblaw, you do have the most amazingly perfect EW message-board handle i’ve ever seen. however, when it comes to your assessment of Tina Fey, I fear … you’ve made a huge mistake.

Don’t give “Bob” too much credit… but at least he has somewhat of a good taste, as his obvious appreciation (and plagiarism) of “Arrested Development” shows. Seriously, people, get the DVDs. That show is better than anything else currently on TV. Or ever.

Love Tina. She fully deserved that honor.

Somewhere Mark Twain is rolling over in his grave as the award given in his name has just become the equivalent of entry into the Rock and Roll hall of Shame.

billk, I am going to go out on a limb here and say that you voted for Bristol Palin on Dance with the Stars… in all of your phones and e-mails… the maximum amount of times.

        Ha, ha, perfect.

    • America

      I agree

P.S dancing with the “stars” sucks

I’m really, really proud of her. She deserves it. I’ve been a fan since she was doing Weekend Update with Jimmy!

Another undeserved award but hey with all the awards 30 Rock wins someone has to ask the question of who’s desk’s has she been under?? Can they also give her award for ruining SNL??

  • Ritz

The ONLY good thing about Sarah Palin is Tina Fey’s impersonation so we can just laugh at her absurdity ad nauseum.

Look, she’s funny and talented. But here’s the list of the other winners:
    # 1998 – Richard Pryor
    # 1999 – Jonathan Winters
    # 2000 – Carl Reiner
    # 2001 – Whoopi Goldberg
    # 2002 – Bob Newhart
    # 2003 – Lily Tomlin
    # 2004 – Lorne Michaels
    # 2005 – Steve Martin
    # 2006 – Neil Simon
    # 2007 – Billy Crystal
    # 2008 – George Carlin
    # 2009 – Bill Cosby
I really don’t think that at this point, she ranks.
