Iron Man director Jon Favreau is negotiating with Walt Disney Studios to helm Magic Kingdom, a Night-at-the-Museum-esque movie about the rides at Disney’s iconic theme park coming to life. Favreau will reportedly shelve a script penned by Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica), and develop the project with a new, as-yet unnamed writer. [Variety]

Well, if this is like the first Pirates of the Carribean, it will be great fun. If it is like The Haunted Manison, it will make me die a little on the inside.
Disney’s purging Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy from its records…
Shall we assume a Jack Sparrow cameo is in the offing?
will robert downey jr make a cameo?
Disney does own Marvel now.
Interesting. I was at Universal Studios over the summer and had mentioned to my family they should make a movie about the rides and characters at Universal Studios coming to life and terrorizing the park like the dinosaurs, King Kong, Jaws, Frankenstein and all the other monsters and now, I read this possibility but about Disneyland. Hmmm, sounds like great minds think alike.
I went to Disney twice last year and thought the park was just begging to have a movie set in it! There are so many little worlds rolled into one place and some of the buildings are so interesting!
As a Disneyland fan, all I can say is no. Just no…
So would this sort of be like those novels Kingdom Keepers, where the rides come to life at night? If not it would still be awesome!!
They could just adapt the books. They have a great plot already. Plus think of all the great actors they could get to play the classic Disney villains.
Wow, this could be cool…sort of like Roger Rabbit with all the celebrity (human and animated, etc.) cameos.
For the video game fans out there…this has a certain “Kingdom Hearts” type of potential, depending on how they approach the material.
This subject is already covered in “Kingdom Keepers” by Ridley Pearson, an excellent teen novel about the goings on after MK closes (and II and III take place in other parks)…
